Golf Anniversary 1.8T 180bhp
Had one of these for a couple of months now, and its not a bad car, lots of torque and handles quite well for a Golf, and looks really good, but i am a bit suprised at the fuel consumption, driving like a granny I only get 27mpg at best , if you push it a bit it drops to 23-24, anybody else had one of these?

They are famous (like Scoobies) for mass airflow sensor failure. Might be worth checking out as consumption worsens on VAG motors in this situation I believe.
My mechanic friend keeps boxes full of VAG MAF sensors for this very reason.
I like the 1.8T engine I tried in the Octavia vRS, which is I believe the same. People slate it for being boring, but I thought it was very competent indeed. Lovely and torquey across a wide range, far more flexible than the diesel.

I used to have a SEAT Leon Cupra with the same engine, (does the Golf have a 6sp box too?).
My average fuel consuption was around 28-29mpg based on thousands of miles of journeys, albeit lots on 70mph dual carriageways. The best I ever had out of a tank was a stupendous 36mpg, a long motorway journey though multiple sets roadworks, albeit the traffic flowing well at around the 50mph mark. Never came near that figure again.
The worst I ever had was when I was doing some enthusiastic spectating on the Tour of Mull Rally. The the mpg dropped down to about 16-17.
