seat ibiza cupra
any thoughts on the above? Looking to get one of these or any hatch with the 1.8t engine. A company called 'Impossible Performance' round the corner from me said that for around £1100, one of these could easily kick out 225bhp and loads of torque.

Should be a good car, but with a high powered FWD it is anyone's guess how it will take to it. I think there is a guy on here who has got a big powered one. I am sure he will fill you in on the pro's and con's.

Tuning for the Ibiza can range from just over 200bhp to 350bhp depending on how deep your pocket are.
A basic remap will get the Ibiza up to around 200-215bhp. For all 1.8T remaps the outright power is very dependant on the turbo that on the engine.
There are some nice upgrades out there with about 250bhp and 260lbft. For not too much money. Circa £2k
I would have thought that £500 would be all you had to pay to get about 215bhp from the Ibiza.

I think if you look on
www.seatcupra.net
or
www.seatenthusiasts.co.uk
you will find plenty of people that have obtained around that power figure for not a lot of cash..

Used to have one.
Nice looking cars, bit pokey inside but nice spec.
Handling is fairly poor, braking is abyssmal Cupra R has 4-pot Brembos as standard, which are presumably better than the chocalate brakes on the normal Cupra).
In a straight line they are quick though, even in standard form, which is somewhere around 160 Bhp they feel like about 7 secs to 60. The R has 180 Bhp standard.
It is basically the same engine as in the Audi TT so 225 Bhp is easy enough with a remap and I think a different manifold and a couple of other things - cheaper than £1100 anyway. But don't even think about hiking the power to that without decent brakes and better handling (I remember racing another Cupra when we had one and braking hard from 100+ - he ended up sideways and was very lucky not to lose it, I managed a little better, from luck or judgement but would not rate the car highly at all in this respect).

I had one and have to agree with Sulli's comments.
I found that the traction control was far too keen. I had occasions when it cut in as I pulled out from roundabouts, it's is pretty crude traction control and kills the power very quickly which can lead to dangerous situations. This was on a standard car so god only know what it is like on a breathed on car. You can turn it off though
The handling was not very good, if I hit a bump in the road when cornering the car had a tendancy to jump sideways
With improved brakes and a smooth race track they are good fun.

Ive got one at the moment, bought it as I wanted something fairly pokey but cheap to run and insure..yet its really growing on me!
Power delivery is very smooth..too smooth sometimes but the car is has more then enough to match most "normal" cars.
Handling seems a bit barge like but this is compared to some of my previous cars. Love the interior as do a lot of passengers...and the females seem to love the colour (blue)
Been looking at power hikes also, 270-280 seems only £2k away which is tempting but not sure whether Id rather buy a quicker car again in the first place.
All in all a lot of car for the money

Was tempted to get the Cupra R (Ibiza) .. As i'm currently a member on SeatEnthusiasts. Seeing all the power increases is great. Believe the most powerful at the moment is 360bhp!
I was looking at putting the Cupra R engine into my Cordoba Coupé.. at a cost of 5K.. which means the car would roll out of garage with 210bhp.
but when i got in the Scooby.. I was hooked! Hence the Cordoba going and on the hunt for a Scooby Type R ..

I am looking at similar choices - Clio 182, Cupra or poss go smaller for a Fabia vRS
I looked at the clio and just dont trust the build quality of these things - I will definitely go for VAG of some sort

I have the Ibiza FR same engine and turbo as the Ibiza Cupra, simple remap to 220BHP 240lb/ft £500 overall cost £13,000 Gives me close to 200BHP/tonne for that price great car, the Ibiza Cupra will go higher as it has better intercooler. Expect 230-240 BHP from a good remap.

Just picked myself up a Cupra at the weekend after selling my RB5.
It's Jabba'd to around 205 BHP
Got Koni coilovers, the Cupra R Brembo's under 17's and it is absolutely class !! Love it already !
Been smiling since i got it and, look forward to every time i get to drive it.. Very well equipped, decent build quality.. Can definitely recommend one
