2.5 mile straight and only got to 178 mph with 520 BHP, maybe that included the braking distance as well. Maybe it is just too heavy so doesn't accelerate to vmax very quickly?

Not me, VBH, presume you saw it. Only had mine to 7000 RPM in top, but it doesn't take 2.5 miles to do it LOL. But it doesn't do it with style and keep its water in place either

Would she not have been better rather than starting at a stndstill to go onto the runway at say 50mph and then floor it, that would cut out the time and distance taken just to get launched, they might break, but I'd still have one, just for the james bond stylee service!!

Didn't the timing people say that at the rate of accel, etc, the Vanquish would've needed a 5-mile run to make Vmax?
The REAL top speed of a car or bike is what it will hit on a half-mile straight between corners, before you have to brake again ..... all the rest is just Top Trumps nonsense.

Found it myself....Magneti-Marelli
Funny that...they make the gearbox for 575 (could be even the same box with different software )
Conspiracy?

Although more likely this:
Aston Martin Gearbox: Modified version of the American Tremec T-56 transmission, with the control/actuation/software devolped by Magneti Marelli.
Ferrari: Clean sheet design, or using a more specific existing Ferrari based transmission.

The Magneti-Marrelli sytem is used by Aston, Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa and even Fiat.
Big differences in the type of gearboxes it's fitted to and the complexity of the electronics and software though.
Cheers
