Cool My new Pug 205 GTI Rocks!

I picked up my new run around on tuesday and I have to say I have not had as much fun in a car since picking up my first 280 bhp classic scooby.

Its a H reg 1.6 in miami blue, it's the special edition model with full grey leather interior.

Its had a 1.9 engine conversion with top and bottom strut brace, air filter and a straight through exhaust.

Goes like stink and handles like a go kart!!!

Only thing is its very strange being in a car without power steering. But still it rocks!

Yeah, getting the rear torsion bar raised, or it might be the body in the boot!

I've already got the lights and alloys provisionally sold on PSOOC, just got to get the rest back to standard.

Then i've got to find a track day!

Good man

Those alloys actually aren't too bad, but you can't beat the original speedlines IMHO! Good call re the rear torsion though, that is a wee bit low at the back

Glad to hear that Looks like a good buy for £650, you should see more than that back when you come to sell! Love those Miami blue ones!

Great cars too - got to be easily the best fun-per-£ performance car you can buy IMO.

It had to be either maimi blue or mat black, the two best colours, but miami blue was the first choice.

Jawa, I signed up to 205gtidrivers.com but found PSOOC to be a bit more lively, both nowhere like home though

re the ride hight at the back, low was a bit of an understatement, if I get enough hight on a pot hole it hits the bump stop!!!!

Thumbs up

My first real hot hatch was a 1.9 GTI...great car.

At the time (1988) on most roads, there weren't much to touch it!

Great car, a classic !

Just watch out for that 'lift off oversteer' !!! It's probably the cars only handling weak spot (if you an call it that). Oh and all the rattles, but that's part of the fun of owning a french hot hatch. (I've had three since and now my 1st scoob)

I'm still grinning from my Sunday morning trip to the Shell garage for a drink of Optimax!
Not even a proper country road blast (through Totteridge to Borhamwood) but still plenty of bends/bid roundabouts.

Bought it (1.9 o na G-plate) a year ago to replace my fettled MY99 Scooby and now I've rebuilt the rear beam, fitted bilstein streetline kit, replaced the topmounts and fitted a set of T1-S's I'm laughing even more.

GREAT cars! (plus 205gtidrivers is the way to go )

And in response to the above - if the back end is sorted the LOO is pretty mild - probably less twitchy than the Scoob (after Bumpsteer mod)...

It's not a flaw - it's the whole point

I still havent really had a good blast yet, as you can imagine with the back so low! so still waiting to (not) get caught out by LOO.

I think i've just found a bargin set of speedlines as well on ebay the back to standard campaign continues!

I've had pugs for years, 205 1.9 when I was 20, then onto a GTi-6, then the scoob, and back onto another pug now alongside the GTR, I'd been on PSOOC for years but have to admit never look at it anymore - 205gtidrivers all the way

BTW the best colour is of course Sorrento Green but Miami is a close 2nd

@ the bumpstops though, in which case defo need to raise it, then go out and have bags of fun

There's a knacked 1.9 GTI near me that I'm thinking of buying and doing up as a project car. Are parts easily accessible and cheap?

I'm hoping to get my 1.9 on the road in a week or two. It was a red 1.6 on a G reg. It too has had a 1.9 conversion, done a couple of years ago. However the chap who did it couldn't get it to start so it sat idle for 2 years. My mates got a hold of it and discovered a muliplug under the bonnet wasn't connected.... £150 later and it's mine

Gary - would cost too much to stick an 8V in as it has all the mounts, exhaust etc for the 16v. Besides, just bought me some GSXR 750 throttle bodies for the Mi16 to try for the fabled 200bhp
