Buying an mport - Help plz!!!
Folks,
When buying an import from a dealer/importer what kind of paper work should I ask and look out for.
For example I've just got off the phone to a dealer and I asked him if I could see the Auction Grade paper work and he said "no we don't show that, but this car is a 4.5".
Is that so....are dealers not supposed to show auction paperwork???
And what is a good Auction Grade?
Also how do I know the mileage is correct??
Plz help as I've never bought an import before....
thanks

Grade 4.5 is good, but I would want to see the auction sheet.
If memory serves me correct, Grade 1 is very bad with 4 upwards pretty good.
With things like this you need to rule with your head and not with your heart.
If you are patient, you will always find the car that you want, even if you have to pay that bit more. But it is worth it if you dont have the heartache of a lemon of a motor!!
Just my 2p worth

Would you expect an importe dealer to provide a warranty on an imported car that costs over 17K.
I have a dealer that wants me to pay an extra £250 to a third company should I want a warranty.
My question is: If I decide not to take the extended warranty and one of the turbo blows on the car, what come back do I have on the dealer.

Have you thought about buying yourself a warranty from the AA or something. That way you have piece of mind that if anything goes wrong, you a covered.

Any honest dealer will have no qualms about providing you with the auction sheet. If he's hiding it you have to ask yourself why.. He may have bought an accidented car for cheap, fixed it up and be selling it on as pukka. More likely, he will have 'modified' the mileage and not want you to see the sheet because it states the original mileage on it.
Either way, walk away.

i have no objections getting a warranty from AA or RAC, but for a car that is worth just under 20K I would expect the dealer (in this car a respected importer) to provide some sort of a guarantee.
otherwise, why dont i simply import the car myself.
