Need advice about pug 205 1.6 gti
Has anyone on here owned or worked on a pug 205 gti??? My friends one has a really erratic idle, found this web site that says what to do, but mentions something about a SAD device. I would like to know what it is if anyone knows, and where it is in the engine bay.

The link is very useful, but there is another question i would like to ask. Does anyone know if you can fit the head off an mi16 block onto the original 1.6?? If you can, would this make the car any better to drive?? Or is it best left std??

I've had 2 GTi's 1.6 & 1.9 my first one a 1.6 had the erratic tickover and stalling problems i changed the airflow meter as the track gets worn in them with carbon deposits and it was sorted.

The SAD is the supplimentary air device. It is basically a choke and looks like a small cylinder about 2" in diamet 4" long with a black hose coming from each end. It is bolted to the side of the head above the gear box.
These do play up and it can be worth replacing them but also look at the possibility of itbeing the air flow meter.
Or rip it all out and put carbs on it

Its under the dizzy. A clean can help, but probably worth retracking the MAF too.
Have a squizz over on www.205gtidrivers.com - theres a forum there, this has been covered many times, so a quick search should glean everything you need

My 1.9gti had a crap idle until I fixed all the split hoses that connect engine breathers to fuel injection . These were creating air leaks. AFM is the usual culprit after the airleaks. I think the SAD either causes high idle speed cos it never closes or refusal to idle when the engines cold cos it never opens (or the other way round etc)

The Mi16 and std 1.9 block are the same. Fairly sure the 1.6 block is the same as well apart from the 1.9 sump spacer.
