Thumbs up Finally got me a Focus Zetec 2.0 ESP

Got rid of the nightmare Clio after it snapped another clutch cable, sold it 4 hrs later!!!

The Focus is a 2001 'Y' in Smokestone Grey and has done just under 10,000 miles. It's got loads of kit and is lightyears better than the Valver I had. So much nicer, superb handling, power is about the same as before. The best thing is that all the kit works!!!

I'm well pleased with it and should pick it up this Saturday. Mmmmm new car, I can't wait.

Time to be sensible and say goodbye to hot-hatchdom.

I often feel like that with my Saxo, rattles + dealers are the biggest issue for me, but i have to say point to point french cars do it for me. I think i will remain a 'boy racer' for a few more years yet before getting a proper car

Yep, know what you mean Andy. R5 GT Turbo was my first quick car which I had for 6 years followed by the Clio 1.8 16V which I had for seven years. As you can see I keep my cars for a long time and like to think I get good ones when I do buy a new car. Yes the Renault's were great with the R5 my absolute favourite. The only problem is that they start falling apart after 70/80k miles no matter how well they're looked after with stupid little problems allways cropping up but cost the earth to sort.

I'm hoping the Focus introduces me to a totally different car ownership experience, the last 2 years I've hated the hot-hatch label. Must be getting old!!! (30 eek)

Had one of these a few years back, top handling car. Replaced it with a ctr and I reckon on undulating twisties the focus handled better.

I've just traded in my Focus 1.8 Zetec after 4 1/2 years, longest I've ever had a car by a long way.. Total repair bills in all that time.. £60 for a new wheel bearing... (and the usual tyres/servicing). It goes on Friday and I think i'll actually miss it a bit. pity the st170 isn't much cop, I might have had one of them...

We have a 1.8 Zetec (well the Mrs does) and she wants to sell it now

I will actually miss it when it goes - great car, quick, nimble, reliable if a little thirsty

How do you find the RS then David?

Still think they look fantastic!! Wish they would sort a 4x4 version with 350bhp!!

Yeah, I'm waiting for something AWD from Ford. FWD sucks with big power.

The RS is great fun, a real drivers car and a decent competitor for the WRX. It will out handle and out corner pretty much everything else in it's price bracket. The handling is definitely the strong point.

It's pretty slow off the line due to being FWD and having a torque restriction in 1st gear, but once you hit 3rd gear it's pretty nippy. 60 to 100 takes just 9 seconds. Being turbocharged it also has a lot of torque. It will pull well from as little as 1200rpm. It hardly suffers at all from turbo lag - probably mainly because it's quite a small turbo and uses a recirc valve.

The steering is very lively, and almost undrivable on back roads. The hard suspension, limited slip differential and huge torque means the car is all over the place. Get on a smooth surface, wider road, it's a totally different story - lots of composure and no understeer whatsoever. You can get on the gas way before the apex and steer on the throttle.

My favorite thing about the RS is just the feel of it - it feels like a track day car mixed with Ford Focus - brutal power delivery, hard riding and meaty controls, but still with a spacious interior and big boot. It's definitely for enthusiasts only - I'm still quite suprised that they got away with actually building a car like this!
