Question Anyone with knowledge of ae86 Toyota Corolla GT/Levin/Sprinter Tureno ???

Anyone on here with any knowledge of these.

I'm off to see this car on saturday.

1984 A reg in white/black,MOT-dec04 TAX-end june.

ENGINE-4AGE,Washable air filter, polished induction pipe, splitfire plugs,4-branch manifold+Janspeed centre section with stainless back box, radiator re-core,lightened crank pulley+fan,MicroDynamics adjustable rev limiter with full throttle gear change,Castrol GTX Magnatec oil.

CHASSIS-Lowered,Koni adjustable shox,Whiteline h/duty f+r anti-roll bars, adjustable Panhard rod all with pollybushes,40mm roll centre adjusters,drilled-grooved front disks, braided brake lines,2 spare front calipers, set of 5 polished 14"Supra wheels on brand new Fulda Attiro rubber, some spare deep dish drift wheels.

INTERIOR-standard complete,Trust aluminium gear ****,5"Tacho rev-counter with shift light,INDIGLO BLUE volt/vacume guages,mountney s/wheel.

EXTERIOR-Full re-spray last nov,black bonnet,phase2 sideskirts,some stickers etc.

These cars are still quite expensive even though old - I have only managed to find 3 in the uk that seem worth a look. If these ones are nails can anyone suggest any specialist imports that may be able to bring me a levin in from japan ???

Where are the weak/rust areas on the shell ?

Anything else to look out for ?

Regards

Ian.

Try Toyota owners

Go to the forum, then you are probably best of posting your question in the corolla section. A couple of the guys there may be able to give you more tips.

Hippy dude,

If you get really stuck give Adrian at Fensport a call. Even if he cannot help specifically with this car he may be able to help sourcing a different one.

Cheers

Ian

Cheers Ian,

The one I'm off to see really looks good - the respray is nice - original style two tone white and blank - but the engine bay wasn't done (hence still red). Front damper turrets look all clean and rust free which is good.

Its a regular Corolla ae86 GT Coupe - not a levin or trueno so no popup lights which is a shame (but then less to go wrong)

The interior is all brown vinyl which is well 70's/Pimp and fits the era of the car I think (ummmm would prefer black but hey - when there are seemingly 3 in the country cant be choosy)

The guy who lives 2 doors away from me imports a lot of cars from Japan - I was considering getting him to ask his contacts for me. I think there are some drfit shops in japan that still trade these cars regular.

I figured Fensport would be useful for bits - but maybe they can help up front with advice.

These cars are indeed still expensive, they are in demand because they are pretty damn good cars to drift!! and there is so few about.

The UK style Corolla is actually the Levin in Japan, the Trueno the popup model.

Main areas to watch for rust are rear arches, inside the tailgate/lower edges and worth checking the bulkhead inside the enginebay too, mine has a bit of rust where the chassis rails meet the bulkhead.

Engines are strong enough, and Fensport can supply replacements so no worries there.

Not many decent examples left, if its half decent BUY IT!

Most are shipped out to Ireland these days, sadly.

It seems good - the interior is a bit tatty but it seems that all the right work has been done to preserve the shell.... It had a sminge of welding in the boot last year before it was resprayed - the engine bay (damper turrets, bulkhead etc) looked ok....here are some pics.

I had one of these as a rally car - sold it to Ireland.

Check the rear pockets. These are the inside of the arches behind the rear wheels.
