Try it on a classic policy, a lot cheaper. Thats how I insure it.

My insurance is about £280 yr on a MK2 Golf GTi that I use when I'm back in the UK. I'm an average insurance risk at 30, male , no points, reasonably bad postcode etc. That's with Liverpool Victoria, can't think of a better cheap way to get around than my MK2, it does 40+mpg on a run, 32 ish round town is built solidly and can keep up with rep mobiles and teach them a thing or two about agility. Not a bad car at all for so little money.

Thought I'd add the car sits around for months at a time and when I turn up to use it it starts first time every time- reliability has been 100% over 5 yrs of ownership.

I've got 4 cars on classic policies.

Stipulation is that the car must be over 10 years old. You can limit the mileage per year to save money.

3 are with Diamond Insurance consultants, tel. 01442 825481. My old Capri 2.8i is with Jardine Faber through the Capri Club, 01604 639011.

The Golf costs me around £280 fully comp with Diamond. I reckon Jardine Faber (and some others) could beat this. I am 29. No claims bonus is NOT taken into account, but on the flip side the policies do not accumulate NCB. Oddly, my Merc SL500, worth 25 times more than the golf, is cheaper.

Hi olly, what a nightmare,im v interested in the golf. Ive tried the classic policy route but they wont let me have one till im 25(23 now). The cheapest quote i could get on the car was 480 tpft. Shame because i would have liked to meet you and see the car asap as i need a runabout soon as. Sorry mate
