Default VX220 Turbo 48-hour test drive

Well it didn't really happen. I booked a 48 hour test drive off the Vauxhall site, I thought what a good idea, I quite fancy one, but could I live with getting in and out of one day to day. Anyway, Vauxhall phoned up last night and you have to use your own insurance. Fair enough I thought, then they they wanted my credit card details as it's £175 for the privilege of test driving their car! Refundable against purchase of said car! I'd go through a broker if I did go ahead (nearly 3 grand off). The other way to look at it is that's pretty cheap for 2 days car hire for something like that. Maybe I'll do it when it's a bit drier and I can take the £175 out of their clutch Anyone else come across charging for a test drive?

Never come across testing driving fee but I am with Vauxhall on this. The fee no doubt makes people think twice & stops them taking advantage of test driving a fast car without the intention of purchasing it.

Good idea for the summer though I hope it hasn't got a mileage cap because it would be good to take out on a nice sunny weekend

Absolute bollox IMO. Do they want to sell cars or what ?!?!

Not Vauxhall related but a Honda dealer down the road tried this on with me a while back. I wanted to take an Accord Type S for a day but got the same response.

I reckon it's down to the dealer's discretion though as the dealer where I bought my car let me take a car out all day on their insurance.

in the past i have found that if you tell the dealers you are wanting lots for your comapny car order you can drive what you like!

i get no shortage of 24hr drives in cars.

Indeed that was my original point - they are effectively renting the car to you, and therefore there are no rules First rule of hire car club is........ I wonder if the £175 will increase to £500 for the weekend when the weather gets better come May/June? They're shooting themselves in the foot with an empty offer like that.

Maybe we can start out own U-drive company and sub let the cars out for £500 a go? Over £300 profit and dont need to worry about tyres etc.

I think I will phone them up and see if they fancy letting me have a 48hr test drive, suppose there will be an age limit though?? I am only 20, ok that is young, but I drive an Impreza Turbo so its not like I will be jumping from a 1.0 Fiesta to this!!

Also, as its my insurance, surely its my choice to put it on my insurance...

Cheers,
Grant

Right well just had a look at the Vauxhall website myself, and its a standard £175 charge for the 48hrs, but as was said, its a cheap car hire for a couple of days in a very quick car!!

Just order it over a weekend you can take it to a track, then get a couple of mates to chip in, take turn about at the track etc... Makes it a very cheap weekend of fun.......

Just need to wait 5 years until I am 25...

Cheers,
Grant
