my MY02 WRX is shortly going and before the next one I need a half decent car with reasonable performance for between 2-4K, pref. 4 door, so Ive narrowed it down to

volvo s40 t4 or maybe an 850 t5
beemer 535i sport
saab 9-3/9-5

just wondered what experiences/opinions any of you have

cheers!

Alfa 156.
A4 turbo.

Neither will break the bank. You'll get at least a P - R reg for that money. Insurance isn't brutal. Economy vs. reasonable performance. Not Impreza league but neither are Imprezas.

thx, the alfa looks like a dogs dinner but the a4 is worth a look, what sort of performance do you get from a A4 1.8 turbo anyone know?

I believe they range from 150bhp to 180bhp. Being the VAG engine (what a choice of letters) they can be chipped easily for little money. People like AmD do this with great success. Seem to be reasonable residual values also at the minute.

Have a look on www.audi-sport.co.uk.

Can you get a 535i for that money? What sort of age would it be?

i was just going to say that you won't get much of a 535 for 2-4k. i quite fancy one myself, but i think i'll have to wait until i can chuck 8k or so at it.

for a 535i, easily get a half decent one g/h/j reg for around 2k-3k, they seem to fetch no money at all. Im leaning towards a s40 t4 at the mo, fully spec'd with leather and air-con 200bhp and get a 5 year old one for about 3.5k

cheers
