I have had the car a week now, and as it still only has 400 miles on it, havent had much of a chance to drive it hard.

Anyway, heres my opinion compared to the Clio 172 it replaced.

First thing I noticed was getting in and shutting the door. It shut with a "clunk" and there was silence. No rattling, sound of loose door catches or nothing. The build quality is superb all round. The car feels solid and well built. The drivers seat is very good, supportive and comfortable. The white dials will take a little time to get used to, and the sound from the stereo is not quite spot on for my ears, but thats all minor stuff.

Driving position is good, the pedals are well set and the 6 speed gearbox has a short throw between the gears, with the gearstick in just the right place.

Driving it, it feels bigger than the Clio (probably cos it is !!) and less chuckable, but the ride is good, firm but not so much that it rattles your fillings out. The turbo spins up at low revs (2500 ish) and it pulls hard without really letting up (well as far as i have taken it to anyway). The ESP/traction control is good cos its not very intrusive and still lets the wheels slip a bit before activating, so it doesnt spoil the driving experience too much.

All in all i'm well pleased with it. Once its run it completely I can give it a good run out, and then see what its like.

And then fit the Revo and get her up to 276bhp !!!!!

Matt - what you got ?? SPS1, 2, or 3 ? How much did it cost in total ? I looked and the SPS2 plus the software is about 820 quid inc. VAT.

Dave - will Libby really know if you buy the Revo? Can't you tell her that you're changing the indicator lights? Surely a few nights DJ'ing will pay for the device?

I just went with the SPS1 cause I can only get NUL with my fuel card. SPS2 & 3 you really need to be putting optimax in it.

Can't remember the final cost (tried to put it to the back of my mind ) but I think it was around the £700 inc.

Bare in mind, if you know someone with the SPS 2 or 3 module you can use theirs to alter your setting
I was dissapointed with mine (coming from a well tuned Scooby) until I got it Revo'd

Am thinking of replacing my current car with a 225bhp leon, love the looks plus 4 door 'practicalness'. How much are they? Are there any extras that you'd recommend? Insurance wise what group are they?

Leon Cupra R is a great car in either 225 or the original 210hp flavour, I've had mine for 18 months now and cant fault it. Price for the 225 is £18k inc Tracker, options are Recaro front seats (cloth), SAT Nav and colours being Ovni Yellow, Red, Black, Arctic Silver & Platinum.

Glad you are shot of your 172 mate. The missis is thinking of part ex'ing hers for a Cupra diesel. Your build quality notes may just swing it the way of the Seat. Sounds a more solid car for definate

I had a test drive in a Cupra this afternoon, it felt good, not as quick as my STi but not that far off.

One thing I didn't like was the traction control, can you turn it off ? I didn't ask the salesman as he didn't seem to have much of a clue about the car, that was disappointing as well.

I think it would be a better drive with the traction control switched off.

My old mans got a Cupra R, it has one of the most annoying rattles in the dash that I have ever heard, in any car! The gearknob is starting to flake, and he has lost a couple of letters off the Cupra badge at the back. The build quality isn't up to the same standard of, say, a Golf!

CT - yeah you can turn the traction control off. Theres a switch by the gearlever. The flaky gearknob is a known issue on the R, the dealers will swap it under warranty.

I thought the traction control is just right, it doesnt deaden the car and lets you get the wheels loose a little before switching on.
