my brother is about to buy a cupra (not an R), either the 1.8 or the tdi.....for his budget of 14ish is this the way to go or should he look closer at the golf or similar?

and assuming the cupra is fine is the petrol much better than the tdi or is it a bit thirsty?

any advice?

Tavia vRS? £14k should get a nearly new or there's 0% finance on brand new Octavias at the momment. Bung 40% deposit down and the rest in an ISA. I'd be surprised if he couldn't get £750 knocked off the list price without trying!

Agreed the vRS sounds a good alternative.

Cupra is sharper than the equivalent golf (and cheaper obviously).

I'd personally go for the TDI150 over the petrol 'cos the performance delta will be negligable and you're talking 50mpg as opposed to 30mpg. Depends on his needs though?

Both remap easily - around 190bhp / 220bhp respectively for £300 - £800 depending who you go to.

Send him over to Seatcupra.net HERE to chat to a few folks.
