The guys at the place I used to work built the engine on Colin McRaes. The noise it made when it was being driven in & out of the factory was awesome, I had to have a quick sit in it obviously lol.

My biggest regret in life is....
I didn`t buy one of them.
After Group B was killed off, Rover had a compound full of Clubman 6R4`s...they were being sold off at £12,000....I bought a new Mk1 Honda CRX instead.
Damn, damn, damn!!!!

That V6R4 engine, when a turbo is bolted onto each v bank and then slipped into a Jaguar ... voila... Jaguar XJ220. Only ever seen one in action on ordinary roads. Awesome sound very different to the N/A version of the engine fitted to the Metro 6R4 which, to my ears at least, is one of the finest of all engine sounds apart from a Rolls Royce Merlin V12 on full chat ... now that's an engine sound .....

ADP, how long ago was this? Also do you know where I can find any recent info on the car? My reason for asking is my dad used to own it many many moons ago (B197 X*D). He bought it direct off the team coz my uncle used to work with them as their ostiopath (spelling). I have been trying to find out any info on what it's been up to/where it's been for the last 10 or so years on the net for a while but with no success.

I remember being at a rally at Gaydon, where there was a 6R4 taking part - was one of the favourites to win I think.
The first stage, came out the starting straight, turned to go over the bridge and onwards, when BANG the engine expired.
Mechanics spent the rest of the day trying to get it ready for at least one circuit... and succeeded before the close of play.
Off it went, sounding like something from Hell, and returned on a trailer, having had a severe blow out, which destroyed the front wing of the car.
Poor buggers - felt gutted for them.

There was one of these at a cruse night at arena essex about 7 years ago. It won best looking car (I think) and was booting around the track at the end of the night.
As people stared to leave there was a large bang, said car was sitting wrong way round with the front smashed up, totally gutted for him.

There are still a few of the Metros up here doing the Scottish rally championship, one owned by a girl from works brother in law is particularly competitive, and he also has an RS200 but is using the Metro cos the transfer box (i think) is blown and is going to cost a fortune to replace,

That Quattro is a wicked bit of kit, but you'd think they could've spelt Stig BLOMQUIST's name right. Its not Bloomquist you ignorant fools....

Both cars are f'ing awesome, to be honest I would be sh*t scared in both of them!
I always liked the Ford rs200, I would have one now, think they're amazing! Getting hold of a genuine one is a bit harder. I think there are some pretty good kit car versions around...

Great cars, and what's most annoying is that Ford struggled to sell them off at the time - they went dirt cheap in the end

MG Metro 6R4, developed by Williams GP Engineering, V6 engine was basically a shortened Cosworth DFV with Cosworth complete cyl' heads and other internals, pistons, etc.
Yet another Cosworth engine with racing pedigree chum to its name!
The RS200 are going for around £145,000 now!!!eek!!!!!

"......The important thing was that David Wood, Austin Rovers competition engineer, had produced an all new design........
It may bo no coincidence that David Wood had worked at the Ford competitions centre at Boreham for some years, and was familiar with the work done by Cosworth to produce a four cam 'GA' version of the Capri's V6 engine. Certainly during the 6R4's development period, a Ford-Cosworth GA engine was aquired for study, and Cosworth were consulted over the design of the 'top-end' of the new design.
The design had progressed very rapidly, for detail drawing did not begin until early 1984, and the first engines did not run until the beginning of 1985. The engines were to be machined and assembled at an Austin Rover factory in Coventry......."
Contraversial.
