Kev,
Ther are a few of us on here who have done what you are talking about and not regretted it.
I bought mine to turn it into a track car and have ended up using it most days and leaving scoob in the garage .... Scoob is a weekend car now.
Do it you wont regret it

Agreed. Mine is an Mi16, so I get 162bhp (RR'd) and only 900kg.
Currently building mine up to track standard, so new head going on soon, brakes, cage, exhaust etc.
They have their little "foibles" but are great cars.
Jason (Blue off here) has also just bought one as well and joined the club

What Brakes you got Mark?
Currently buying some new bits. Getting ATE Powerdiscs from eurocarparts, and Ferodo DS performance pads with performance fluid.
The ATE discs are supposed to be really good on the 205 and only cost £20 each - they have a nice groove running around them.

errr can't remember what we're running at the moment. They're grooved OTE I think, although they are the regular grooved disks and not the "swirly" grooves.
Pads ~ depending on the event. Sprints and Hillclimb we use EBC Greens, other wise Mintex I think. Standard on the back.

So we have another entrant into the fold eh DW?
Everytime I drive mine instead of the Supra I come back with a huge grin on my face - quite something for a car thats no where near as fast
The ATE powerdisks are supposed to be real good and with DS pads you should stop with no probs! Dunno what on mine, haven't needed to change em yet but they work better than the JSpec ones on the Supe (soon to be amended with HUGE UK disks and calipers!!!! )

Kevin - do it, you won't regret it for a minute!
I'm three months into 205 GTi ownership, just hooning around London had been fun enough.
Wet roundabouts are easily as fun as the Scoob and the fun generally starts at more license friendly speeds although I miss the traction when pulling out onto main roads in the wet!
I spent 950 squid on a high mileage G-plater but it's far less rattly and baggy than one would expect from a 14 year old frenchie.
Get one that starts well from cold and has a steady tickover, though, the intake/fuel system seems to cause problems, and make sure no creaks froms the back and/or rear wheels sloping in 'cos the rear beam/bearings are prone to go.
And I wholeheartedly back ScoobyJawa when he recommends 205GTidrivers.com!

You lot have got me going today.
So I've blown the dust off my 1.9 tonight and been out for a rip, first time in months.
I had almost forgotten just how good these little buggers are. The 205 GTi is 20 years old soon, and still no other hot hatch gets close.
Buy a mint 1.9 and use the Scoob as a cheap runaround.
