Unhappy

Can't get it to turn over with the starter. All wiring and solenoid fine, new inertia starter, but it just clicks into place and won't turn the flywheel.

Anyone got any ideas???

Cheers,

Pete

Cool

That sounds like a starter problem rather than your engine.

take the starter motor off the car, connect it up, you will probably need a jump lead to connect the start casing to the chassis or negative terminal (dodgy I know, but it works for me)apply some juice & see if it spins. Ford starters do have a habit odf developing dead spots on their rotors.

Otherwise, find the nut on the end of the crankshaft, where the alternatpr drive pully is & see if you can turn it with a spanner (clockwise only). If you can't I would hazard a guess that it is terminal, sorry.

Few things could be at fault here...

Too much voltage drop at the solonoid (bad wiring/battery/starter switch)
Bad earth
Poor Battery
Duff solonoid / cap
Duff Motor

Best done in that order

If the soloniod (or the sol cap) is duff I doubt you will be able get a replacement (unless you know a starter re-conditioners )

Unless the engine is completely seized..can you turn it over by hand if you take out the spark plugs and pull the crank by the alternator belt? Or if it's in the car - push start it

ok.

Starter turns fine when out of gearbox....its brand new.

Engine turns fine.

No voltage drop (well, 0.5v)

New solenoid.

New wiring.

Re-built engine.

New battery.

I'm confused now!
