The 2002 Ford Focus Facelift - what changed?
#1
Thinking about getting a 2yr old Focus as a second car.
Tempted by the 'Carving' models available over here (CH) - similar to the 'Zetec' models available in the UK but these come with ESP as standard.
I understand that there was a facelift in 2002 and there are changes to the front grille, lights, bumper etc but can someone tell me what else changed and when precisely the first facelifted cars were built?
Oh yes and if you've got anything good or bad to say about the ESP I'd like to hear it too. Hopefully it's not as obtrusive as the Peugeot 307 system...
Cheers,

ESP is supposed to be very good, also the "off" actually does turn it off.
It was early 2002 I think for the facelift, but the case over here was that many mkI's still in the channel were not registered till later.
You surmised most of the changes, the 2002.5 model year all have the newfangled 2 stage airbag I think, the ford badge on the steering wheel is bigger if the better bag is fitted. Also all mkII's have the newer GEM fitted which means stuff like the rear wiper sweeps when you select reverse and the front wipers do an extra sweep of the screen after a few seconds to clear the dribble of screenwash after washing the screen, also you can activate auto-locking.
The centre console is much improved on mkII's also. If you want more info try www.ffoc.co.uk , we are a helpful bunch

Excellent. Thank-you.
...although I thought it was Saabs, Vovlos and BMW's that were stuck 'in the channel'.
Good info found on the ffoc.co.uk site thanks. http://www.ffoc.co.uk/2002focus.htm
