Question

How easy is it to tune these? What sort of costs and how reliable?

Can you do the old 'decat, induction and remap' to see 260?

Friend thinking of getting one and wants to know...

Cool

Very easy to tune. Should see 265 with just a remap. See these in no particular order...

Don't bother with de-cat and the induction kit could screw your air mass meter if its an oil coated filter.

Chip will get you around 265 and up to 300 lb/ft of torque - the beauty of a turbo! Cat back exhaust may also pick up a few of each with a stainless steel setup for around £400.

The dash mounted hairbrush will not make it any faster but you will feel left out of course.

PMSL @ hairbrush

But seriously, thats vey good with just a chip - how do they do it?

Even the Tek2 on its own on a scooby isn't that good - you need the full decat hog to bring it to life...

Nothing complicated... just a very detuned engine out of the box. Slap a different turbo on and it'll do 350hp just as reliably.

"No you can't, surely. What about the internals? "
(Just saving cynical Impreza owners adding this comment!)

It IS true.

All I will say is JABBA JABBA JABBA JABBASPORT

Give them a call & you will be amazed what just a remap will give you, its also better than chipping as the map can be personalised to any particular car & owner & also because they do it on the rolling road it will show up any other problems the car may have. You may chip a car & never realise the Dump Valve is under performing, you also get that little print out as proof should anyone doubt the cars performance.

Whatever way you upgrade the car also look at the Torque achieved & the power curves. I neally tail ended a couple high bhp Supras on the Cannonball with a 228 bhp Skoda because they had such a narrow powerband & took for ever to get wound up although on the long straights it was a different story.

Then as has been said 350 bhp can be run on standard internals RELIABLY. I believe you need a bit more than just a Turbo (jets sports cat manifold etc) but Jabba can advise on that.
