The distance rumble of V8 Thunder.....MG ZT's are coming!

MG ZT V8's are now in production, 260 BHP but you can get an easy almost 300+ bhp out of their Mustang motor! After years of **** poor FWD cars atlast the Great grandson of the SD1 is here!
I can't wait to see/hear them....a well built and useable everyday TVR!
Cheers

I saw/heard an early prototype model at Prodrive a couple of years ago sounded awesome. I doubt that exhaust makes it onto the road car though.
The ZT260 has been getting some good press although it is a little rough round the edges for some of the BMW types.
260bhp doesn't sound a lot but its the way it and the torque is delivered.
The supercharged version should be fun.
Rover has many problems with its ageing 25 and 45 line ups but the 75 and ZT has always had good press and customer satisfaction results and MG-Rover deserve a pat on the back for putting a big V8 RWD saloon on the market.

day tripper, why compare apples and oranges?
Mustang: coupe with the steering wheel on the wrong side
MG: fast practical saloon
If they made a RHD 'stang available at the prices they pay in america, I'd sign up tomorrow.

I expect they will depreciate pretty quickly, though so do most other big engined cars in this sector. There was a recent thread about problems with the RS6, I believe.
As for having a rip off Rover over a Mustang... I'd take the (MG) Rover in this country, as the suspension is set up to allow the car to go round corners properly.
I'm still pestering my brother for a go in the one on order at his dealership; should be fun!
There is also talk of tuned versions of the ZT and ZS coming out, with the ZS being a V6 with 300bhp.
My only concern with the new V8 ZTs (and the Rover equivalent) is the initial price - seems maybe a couple of grand too dear. Time will tell, I guess, as to how successful they are.

Let's hope they don't fit the SD1's power-steering, I remember see-sawing across a busy road (major over assistance LOL)..
I wanna hear that V8 rumble soon !!

I read a review in the Times (so I won't take it too seriously )They said the (ford) gearbox was very slow and clunky. And the car looked exactly like the standard versions, barring 4 exhaust pipes.
IMO, I'd like it just to look a little different - just to justify the extra money asthetically. But apparntly it drives as well as you you'd expect, very controllable and balanced
One thing is, it looks like it may have some tough competition. As Vauxhall are officially bringing over their Holdon Commador coupe V8 to the UK (basically a 2 door Omega with a huge V8 engine ). And judging by the expected retail price - its hits head on with the MG
All we need is Ford to join the party and bring in the Mustang
Aha! I found the link: Vauxhall Monaro - Oh yes!!

The one in Autocar this week look really moody in black, the whole thing looks so right with the big wheels and lower stance, the cooking 75 looks so much like a grandad chariot its untrue, its amazing what a bit fettling can do, so I cant see what else they could do with it, perhaps a fibreglass scoob on the bonnet and some big driving lamps, a big spoiler ?
As for the 540i, very nice car but I think the Rover may be a little cheaper and that bit rarer, and its British which without turning into a raging xenophobe does still mean something to some, unlike the people who buy the new mini resplendent with a Union Jack on the top, taking the p*ss a bit that really. I know its very fashionable to diss Rover and to a certain extent they brought it on themselves but going back to the seventies and eighties is a bit pointless as most cars were crap back then. Jaguar have turned it round in spectacular fashion so why cant Rover ? even considering the limited resources they had to start with.
The 540i depreciates heavily as do all big powerful saloon cars, I suspect the Rover will shed a fair chunk of cash but no worse than similar tackle from Jaguar, BMW or Merc, especially considering a Merc or BMW of comparable specification would be more expensive anyway.
Plus BMW have decided that Ugly is the new Handsome and Mercedes have dropped the quality thing a bit, had an M class for a bit and it was no way all that a 35 grand car should be, also the A class the in laws had fell to bits, Minis disentigrate with tedious regularity.

I read somewhere (autocar I think) that the VW Phaeton is set to lose 60-65% of it's value in 3 years.
Seeing as the W12 version, is pretty much the same car as the Bentley GT and will do 180 odd Mph then it's possible to buy a 3 yr old phaeton for around 30K.

For such huge engines, the power outputs on the ZT and the Monaro don't sound particularly impressive, particularly when you consider what Audi are doing with the NA 4.2 litre V8 (340 BHP).
The X-Power supercharged ZT might be worth a sniff, but it'll have to do about 2 or 3 years' worth of depreciation first!

Not really surprising, given they are the same car: Vauxhall Monaro = Holden Monaro. In fact, most of the models are the same; see http://www.holden.com.au/
