Question

Wifey's scort has blown up

Looking at the following -

95N Mondeo 1.8 GLX Petrol Saloon
Ex-BT car, so anything wrong has been sorted
82K
FSH
New MOT

The car's being run by a friend, and he still uses it everyday.

Wants about £1200 for it

So, is this about the right price? (NOT ScoobyNet price - the REAL world please )

What else should I be looking out for on this model?

exhaust? tyres? sills etc?

Any advice?

Thanks in advance,

Dan

This should give you some kind of idea of what it books at, for some reason saloons seem to be worth a lot less than h/backs or estates

Manufacturer: FORD Model:MONDEO 1.8 16V (93-97) Trim:GLX
Year/Reg Original
Price Retail
Price Excellent

1996 P 15320 2660 1155 980 805 66000 Other Mileages

If your going to keep it and run it into the ground then go for it, although it would be nice for about £1000

Not bad cars IMO if you get a good 'un, the last one I had was a '98 2.5 V6 and I done almost 100,000 miles of trouble free motoring.

Thumbs up

Had a 1.8GLX in the mid-90s, they have the strongest motor and are not really any slower than the 2 litre on the road.

Cambelt service is 72K I think, so make sure it's been done. They need to use a 5-30 oil which was unusual at the time but normal now. Thicker oils can cause problems with the hydraulic tappets. If the top end is quiet when started from cold, it's fine.

Starter motors were a problem -- the solenoids fail which means the starter spins without turning the engine -- but if it works OK then it's fine.

A common problem is MOT failure because of high emissions. This is due to a dirty connector for the lambda sensor, which is tucked away behind the front bumper (and gets covered in road crap & spray). Easy to get at if you have ramps etc -- it just needs unplugging, a spray of contact cleaner and cleaning.

The major body panels are galvanised so rust should not be a big problem.

It seems a fair price, if the interior is fine and the car is straight it'll serve you well.

For that price you should be able to pick up a V6.

Lovely and smooth and gives a similar MPG to the 1.8

I sold my 97P 2.0 for 1400 a couple of months back.

Check the exhaust, if it's the original it's a one piece job and costs about £180 to replace!!!!
