Question

Apart from the obvious extra doors, is there anything else?
Thanks for any info...

WHAT?? afaik engines were the same, original e36 m3 was 3ltr then this was increased for the evo to 3.2ltr. Never heard of a 2.8 m3.

I know they released a 4 door M3 EVO as I've been looking at them on Autotrader for the last month or so...
The real question is whether they differ in any way to the coupe in terms of handling, steering, weight, performance, gearing etc (to be a bit more precise).

...and to be even more helpful, the only difference I think there may have been was in terms of suspension stiffness with the 4 door being slightly softer. Is this true?

Yep Engines were 3.0 then 3.2.............

Yes there were M3 Saloons... (old company I was at had 3 as company cars, now I seem to remember they didn't get as much attention as the coupes, nice street sleeper )

All on here http://www.unixnerd.demon.co.uk/bmw_e36.html

Reading this thread it appears that several of the posters dont know much if anything about M3s........!

The 4 door is more stiffly sprung and is just as good in terms of handling....

was going to buy a 4 door m3 evo but bought an mitsi evo 5 instead.
4 door is softer sprung for comfort.

double vanos is very expensive when it goes wrong on the 3.2 evo over a grand.

So, 'turboman786' say 'The 4 door is more stiffly sprung and is just as good in terms of handling....' and 'working on it' says '4 door is softer sprung for comfort.'
Come on guys, who is talking rhubarb?

I thought they were more or less the same.

The 4 door is much rarer, slightly longer (obviously) and that's about it.

Question

With regards to their length fatherpierre, I've just found this on one Internet site:
'The two cars have identical length, wheelbase, track, front/rear weight distribution (which by the way is a perfect 50/50) and curb weights'... The plot thickens.

4 door was reputed to have softer suspension as standard, seem one on track & it did seem correct as it was a fair bit more wallowy than a 2 door (yes it was a real M rather thn a badged up 318 etc as I saw it bonnet up)

Strange, s-snacks.

I'd have thought the 4 door would be a few cms longer.

Wink

Actually, the M3 EVO has about the same performance as standard Supra twin turbo, or STI Impreza once on the move... without needing any turbos! Those clever Germans.
