There's loads of cars with 2.8's and 3.0's but hardly any with 2.9's. Anyone know why? marketing reasons?
Also, the only ones I can think of are....
VW Corrado VR6
TVR (see other thread)
Ford Granada ghia.
Any more?

I used to own a 280bhp Twin Turbo Turbo Technics 2.9 4X4 Sierra about 10 years ago.
Had a full Scorpion Exhaust, sounded mental a mix of V6 and Turbo burble. Unfortunatly I didn't have it long as it was a bit unreliable. Had a standard 2.9 that was totally reliable after that.
Economy was around 14mpg on the Twin Turbo (8mpg if you pushed it) and 18mpg on the standard version.
The Standard 2.9 4X4 Sierra was a quick lusty motor but remember the 2.9 only kicked out 150bhp and the later cat versions 145bhp. Most two litre cars kick out more than that now.
Turbo Technics also did a 320bhp version. Here are the figures compared to a 4X4 Cosworth.
From Rest (mph) 2.9 4X4 320 V's Sapphire RS Cosworth
30, 1.6 2.2
40, 2.7 3.8
50, 3.6 5.7
60, 4.8 6.6
70, 6.4 9.3
80, 7.9 11.4
90, 9.6 14.2
100, 11.8 16.7
110, 14.6 22.8
120, 17.2 27.5
130, 21.3 33.8
Ford later did a 2.9 with 24Valve heads developed by Cosworth available in the Granada/Scorpio, about 200bhp standard if I remember correctly. Some of these have been Turbo'd up to 600bhp
