I hired (with a couple of others) a Blade engined Westy at Knockhill, it was brilliant, but a Hyabusa engine, or a Hyabusa turbo would be awesome.

You'll be pushed in a Westfield regardless of engine to do the same lap times as a Radical. This is why Westfield built the XTR2 as a 1950/60s designs (Lotus 7) isn't going to be able to compete with a full on modern race car (Radical)

utter crap
I've seen some VERY quick Caterfields.. one of the upsides of westfield getting sued was that they're now forced to develop the car. I've seen a SBD Westfield with some really trick suspention. I'm pretty sure that the suspension on both are massively improved over the 50/60 car
Not that I can comment but the Radical is supposed to be better than the XTR2 anyway

It's not utter crap.....however much you develop a Westfield or Caterham you will not do any thing like the lap times that a Radical is capable of.

I've had both a 280bhp Westfield(just sold it last week) and a Radical Club Sport which ive had around 6 weeks and done about 5 track days in,i can say that without doubt the Radical is faster, around Brands Indy it's about 4 seconds a lap faster,I do 50 seconds in the Radical and 54 seconds in the Westie. But a well sorted Caterham R500 is just as fast as the Radical Club Sport both can do around the low 48's at Brands with a top driver in them, although a Radical SR3 can do it in 44seconds and thats around the same price as a good spec Caterham.

The Westfield XTR2 is not a patch on a radical even in 1100 trim. And build quality is some what to be desired on the westfield (on the ones I have seen) The SR3 is virtually on pace with a F3 car round most circuits. I will put this car in the equation tough the DJ Firecat see www.djracecars.com . It boasts aluminuim chassis fully adjustable suspension and looks stunning.

I think downforce is probably what gives a Radical the edge over an R500 on most circuits.
There's one chap who turns up to most RMA days, who has designed and fitted his own downforce mods for his R500 (front skirt and rear wing). It looks odd but, from what I've seen, is bloody effective. He reckons 125mph around Craners and 95mph around the old hairpin at Donington. Would be interesting to see how that compares with a Radical ...
Ian.

The only Radical's that runs down force are the Pro Sport and SR3 models the Club Sport that i have doesn't really have any although the body is so much more areodynamic then a brick shaped Caterfield that must be where it makes up most of it's time.
Here's a picture of both cars at Goodwood last month with the Westie being driven by my dad.

One other thing i would say it's a lot easier to drive the Radical on or near the limit then a Caterfield, you really have to be on top form to get the best out of a Caterfield where's in the Radical it gives you more confidence to push it harder, its's also a lot safer which helps

I think I know of one Dax Rush which could possibly lap faster than a radical.
At the last sprint meeting I organised in 2002 it beat a seriously quick Jedi and a March both by about 1 sec
There was also a AWD cossie turbo Rush at the event (although admittedly it had problems) that was 5 secs slower.
Car is a latest version Dax Rush with a holeshot Hyabusa turbo motor, I think total build cost would be in the region of £20k.
