Need a 2L 8V Vauxhall astra engine...
#1
as mine is knackered.
Apparently 3 years of non stop hammering and nitrous oxide and it needs new piston rings and valve stem seals.
I'm thinking it might be cheaper to replace the whole engine.
Does anyone know where I can find a decent 2L8V engine for resonable money?
Cheers in advance,
astraboy.

Where to find a decent 2 Litre 8 valve motor ?
Look under the bonnet of any 2 litre Volkswagen and there you will find what you seek !
Assuming its a MK2 Astra ?
Seriously, any breakers should be awash with the things as it lived in Astras, Cavaliers, Calibras, Fronteras etc etc, carefull you match ecus/flywheels etc as I had problems with a Rover unit, Same engine but they had changed the electronics slightly that made the flywheel reluctor ring that is used to pick up engine position had been revised therefore it wouldnt go, apparently Vauxhalll were keen on this trick as well so use your old flywheel (I only used the new one on mine cos it had a better clutch)
Depends where you are really as to where to go for one, I would use Britt parts in Stockport. Carefull if you buy a recon as some seem to just have been lifted from a scrapper, steam cleaned and then painted. Have a look on the Auto Trader website, do a search for 2 litre Vauxhalls, find the nearest and cheapest, go and have a look and if it runs ok buy it, 300 would get you a Cavalier 2 litre as nobody wants then nowadays as they arent cheap enough to run for a banger, especially with MOT, try the local auctions, if it drags itself through and doesnt sound to bad its probably ok whatever the mileage and at least you can see it running which is a problem with re-cons and second hand units.
