Very hard, lots of money and **** loads of agro which would probably end up with a very fast but **** handling car, it would probably end up with loads of under steer because of all the weight at the back that the car wasn’t designed for (don’t think you would get much over steer though). It would totally screw up what is a beautifully balanced car. So it all depends on what you want it for, it would be great at drag racing but would handle like a 2CV. So if you’re after a drag racer get a big RWD car with a V8 in it.
Great idea but i dont think it would work, those twin engined golfs handle like a bag of spuds.

Mike,
It would be alot easier and cheaper to have a 172 manifold made up that would accept a turbo.
A twin engine 172 would take a hell of a lot of work and cost a fortune.!
Nice idea though!

The new Megane sport that’s coming out will use the 172 engine that has been adapted for a turbo by Renault which would probably the best way to go. It puts out 230bhp as standard but is not due till Sept 03.

Give Europarts Motorsport in Stoke on Trent a ring on 01782 330048 if you are really serious about having this done. Ian the owner has done a double engine conversion on a Renault 5 GT Turbo which could do 0 to 60 in 3.2 secs and 0 to 100 in 8.9 secs. He has also done a turbo conversion on a Megan coupe (engine size unknown sorry). He knows vertually all there is to know about tuning Renaults. I'm sure he will be very helpful.
