Funny how they always "swerved to avoid an animal" isn't it?

*If* there really was an animal, then I would have hit it, dead square, I'm an animal lover but me + my family come first!

If I see an elephant on the yorkshire moors I mutter "someone up there doesn't like me" and try to swerve round it.

lol if you see an elephant you really are not liked.

Hitting animals can do a LOT of damage. One of the test cars at Gaydon hit a pheasant on the track and even that made a HUGE dent on the front of the car. Another took off a door mirror a few days before.

Instinct sadly takes over in a situation like this, which is why people usually swerve off the road rather than hit anything head on. You don't have time to consider whether it's okay to hit something - you just react.

The things you don't want to hit are elks, which is why we have the Elk test for cars in places like Canada and Sweden. Drivers abroad get training on how to avoid things and keep in control - but people here don't even get to drive on a motorway until they've got their licence!

I ran over a cat last week, didnt even damage the car, glad it wasnt a dog though, i like them!

Didnt even hit as hard as a rabbit, but as most of you will know, a rabbit makes quite a thump!

I've run over a cat and it ran off afterwards, so we never saw how badly injured it was. I bet it used up a fair few lives in that one instance though!

I ran over a rabbit in my Celica, at about 15 mph pulling out of our office centre. Heard a bump, bump, underneath, though "Oh no" :O and stopped. Got out, looked underneath and the magical beggar had vanished! Most confusing!

Someone ran over a pigeon in Leam Spa, outside our old office block, years back. That popped too. Looked like someone had emptied a pillow up the middle of the street. (No jokes about me being poor and having pigeon-feather pillows please.)

Unhappy

When i had a R5 turbo,i came round this bend, and i think it must of been a rabbit party, they were just all over the road, they all legged it pretty quickly.......apart from one, i hit it at about 85 mph, needed a new front bumper, and needless to say it made quite a mess, and i got the most nasty smell coming through the air vents......which was nice.
The good thing about the story is that i dont think he knew much about it, apart from when he exploded

This car was only 3 weeks old when it swerved to avoid hitting an animal and crashed through a fence.
No driver then?
