Hi all

I have a lovely scoob at the moment, though have plans to buy a house this time next year, or if this doesnt prove viable a Porsche Boxster S, and yes I really want he car

So, in th mean time I plan to take the money out of the Impreza and buy something to get by with. The rules are: needs to be relatively entertaining, less than 4k, sensible running figures/mpg/servicing, sensible reliability insurance etc. Im so far fancying a 106 Rallye Mk2 as Ive had the mk1 b4 and quite fancy another, problem is now Ive thought about this Im struggling to think outside the box.......so other suggestions please!

thanks

Andy

how about a mk2 Ibiza cupra? 8v or 16v. Would be a good reliable car.

Go for the Boxster S (picking mine up this morning )
The 106 sounds good - consider a Polo G40 £2-3K - very entertaining cars if you can find a good one.

Gastro,

Did you find a home for the 911 or are you trading it?

Think about a 200sx. You'll get a reasonable s14 for £4k, which will give you 200bhp, RWD, sleek low coupe looks , good reliability, easy tunability, and the best UK car forum to join (www.sxoc.com, BTW)

4k for a G60??... i sold mine for 3000, they are extreamly expensive cars to keep on the road IMO. with 4k you might get a early hi milage pug 306 s16 or a gti 6(not 100% certain) maybe a golf gti mrk 3 16v? astra gsi16v, rs 2000 4x4, 200 sx, clio 16v and maybe a williams.

plenty to choose from.

You would be very lucky to get a 306 Gti-6 for that mileage, unless its gone round the clock and an early version. I love my 6 and I find it ecomical too when required on motorways (My Gti-R isn't though!)

For that type of money you would be better going for a 106Gti, nice little track day car too. Or a mint Mk2 Golf 16v with some upraded antiroll bars and shocks if you want some better quality and exellent handling.

Wink

What you want is a pretty quick motor, big enough to carry stuff around in (you'll be doing a lot of that pre and post moving house) and sensible running costs
Could be your lucky day

Saxo VTR? 1.6 8v SOHC.

Might be able to find a half decent VTS for that cash too, although economy on the VTR is much better, and is half the insurance group of the VTS.

if it's something just to tie you over i'd be looking at something that you know will also hold its value and be easy to sell on.

Clio 16v / williams
R5 GTT
S2 ERST
Fiesta RST / 1800
Escort GTi / RS2000
Golf GTi 16v
Astra GSi
What about a convertable, come next summer you'll be ready to sell and it'll be snapped up.

19 16 valve

One of the best steering feels around, cheap as hell, cheap to run, reasonably fast, is up there with all the GSI's/GTi's of the time.

You can enjoy high-ish performance and reasonable economy and insurance by choosing a car like a Nissan 300ZX, or a early 90's BMW 5-series. Insurance is better on these cars than say an RS-Turbo, Calibra Turbo or an BMW M3 which is nothing but statistic trouble and they will pre-emptively punish you for owning cars like that.
