Looks like we should stuff the Focus in the dustbin where it belongs
Seems like people now realise there is a new King It appeared quitely, but the word is out now.
Back to Dagenham for the Ford Back to Swindon with your Type R's and back to the Chunnel with your Clios

Why should people get rid of their Type-R Civics, and their Focus RS?

Yeah, the Golf was a second slower so therefore utterly crap and and a complete waste of X thousands pounds.... the fact VW didn't run it round the track before releasing it is shocking

And I'll hang onto my 02 WRX PPP.
The R32 may've been 3 secs faster than a Std WRX on the Top Gear track, but I never drive there, and I guess most of you don't either... I do note however, that the Focus RS when tested by Top Gear magazine, was only 1.5 secs faster than a Std WRX around a real racing circuit - Anglesey. Mind, I don't drive there either. I'll stick to real roads.
Cheers

It's an odd track they use though - different track would bring different results I am sure. But as you say surely they should be looking at the Sti's not standard Uk cars - the standard Uk's are so heavy nowadays they just arent the same car the old shape one was.
I quite fancy the R32 though...

There are loads of Golf R32's for sale.
Dealers were allocated cars, some dealers have given them to other dealers cos they cant sell them. My local dealer has one and cant sell it !!!!
The Golf was 1 second slower round a wet track the the Focus RS............... Whos got the 4 wheel drive????
So round a dry track ??

At the end of the day, it's still 23 grand for a Golf.
What do VW think they're doing any differently to Ford and their Racing Puma?
People won't pay seriously over the odds for a car which the average man on the street, the people potential buyers are mainly trying to impress, wouldn't recognise from the hole in their ****...

The Golf's a nice car - no doubts.
I much prefer the skyline R32 - even back 10 years ago, this car is superior to lots of modern day 'sports cars'.
So I agree 'Long live the R32 (Skyline)'

Why oh why would anyone want the overwait ugly Golf?
Ugly Ugly Ugly
Gentleman we have a new high speed Bread Van, with out the fun.
Long Live the R32 Skyline.
CTR/172/RS, all look better, and are more fun, wouldnt even consider it if I were to replace mine.
Bin all the goodies, throw a roll cage in, and we may have a quick car, but for that money I want fast and the Golf is not .

Have you tried out the Golf R32 to make such a statement? Probably not!
If I am correct looking at your name you must be fund of the CTR, well must I say that it is far of been as nice as the R32. It looks more like a van than a sports car!!! But it does have good performance.
I tried both of those cars and in no way can the CTR be as good as the R32,the engine in the R32 is great and very torquee and what an engine sound.

Yes it may be heavy
But..
*It beat the CTR round the track on topgear by a considerable margin.
*It's better built, a more classier interior, better for long journeys (comfort & sound proofing)
*Likey to be more insurance friendly.
*Does not look like a bread van.
*Better standard kit.
And I'm sure on the road (the real world) the R32 would again be better (especially with all that torque).
And I'm sure it won't depreciate that badly, all golfs seem to hold their price well.
The CTR's a great hatch but not the best, I put it about 3rd or 4th.

swisskenny - Are you so sure he is driving the new CTR?? Just because he's a Type R driver doesn't make him a new CTR driver or a ITR driver either. Yeah the R32 is torquee but then again it is 3.2 litre V6 isn't it...
Also if I recall not all CTR's look like vans...
