Mondeo V6
#1
Thinking of getting one of these in the next week and have a couple to look at.
Both M reg, one with 67k, the other with a whopping 118k but it's much cheaper.
Anyone own(ed) one and able to give me some pointers as what to look for and any common problems with these?
What sort of fuel economy can I expect?
Cheers

Can't give you any real advice on the high milers.
I think the cam chains need doing around 100k miles so may be worth checking. Suspension bushes are another Mondeo weak point but are cheap to replace.
I had a MY00 V6 GhiaX from 5000 miles to 30000 miles.
I liked the car, good performance and good handling just wasn't sporty enough for me.
Economy was what most surprised me. I used to average around 28-30mpg in my mainly B road weekly driving. Motorway work at 75-85mph was about 30-35mpg and on a gentle 80mile A road run to the coast I averaged over 40mpg on the fuel computer.
Mash the throttle round town and your looking at low to mid twenties.
I swapped the Mondeo for a 2 litre Alfa 156, the weekly fuel economy is about the same and the Alfa is worse on the motorway or gentle runs.
The great thing about the Duratec V6 is it will happily run at about 1500rpm and still pull well when you floor it, there is no need drive with 3000rpm on the rev counter.

Nice torquey engines It will still pull well in 3/4th gear from about 15-20mph. I was really surprised with the fuel consumption as well for a V6. The only minor problems I had was with the starter motor (located top of the gearbox) and its really fiddly to change. Also the water pump spindles are plastic and can fail, though I never had any problems with mine. I sold it when it had done 105k miles and still see it about going strong....

My dad has one and he reckons the biggest problems is when he comes to swap it as it got all the extras and it gonna cost him a fortune to get the same spec car. He has the ghia and I must admit its a lovely cruising machine

As a second hand nearly new buy they are a bargain.
Take this from a Ford main dealer on its Ford Direct scheme. Full RAC inspection with 2 year Ford warranty.
10 months old and with the extra's would have cost over £24000
2.5 V6 Ghia X 4dr State blue With BLACK LEATHER INTERIOR,17"alloy wheels, climate control air conditioning, anti lock braking, traction contol, ESP ,heated seats ,in dash CD autochanger,Quickclear screen, power sunroof,SATELLITE NAVIGATION,power and heated mirrors, electric drivers seat, power windows, parking sensor, cruise control, trip computer, XENON headlights and with 15,000 miles £12999
If your in the market for a quick comfortable car with all the toys I don't think there is a better alternative for the money.

I have a MY98 V6 Si estate now that I no longer have the Scoob.
Must admit I am very content with it. Huge car with loads of room for dogs, tools, people, sub ect.
V smooth on the road, not as quick but 35mpg.....which is nice
and for the ££ I got for the Scoob bought the Mondeo, a W reg Ka for the wife and insured them both !! (insurance is cheaper for both than I was for the Scoob alone !!)

Cheers guys.
The 1st ford I've owned and it's built well and pulls like a bull. It's surprised me with its cruising abilities. **** on corners but I bought it for commuting and it's as smooth as a 6cyl bmw but for 33% of the price.
Well pleased
