What would happen if you ran them on normal unleaded, would it cause damage or just decrease performance??

If it's a uk car, then it's a legal requirement to be able to run on 95RON, so you should just be looking at a drop in performance. J

there's a sticker on the fuel gauge stating 98RON - well there was on my old E36 Evo. when I first got the car 98 RON was freely available, but mid way through ownership 97 was all you could get. I asked the dealer at the time and they said it didn't matter and would still be covered under warranty. During the fuel crisis I was running 95RON and whilst it was OK, it didn't quite feel right.

I use Optimax in my m3 evo...as did the previous owner. Ive read on the m3 website ( www.bm3w.co.uk/com) that cars will run on normal unleaded but with decreased efficiency and increased fuel consumption.....

besides which, for the level of performance, they aint that thirsty IMHO, im getting around 22mpg round town and 28mpg ona run, which is damn good considering its a 321bhp car.....
