[duck& whisper] KIA Anyone? [/duck & whisper]

My mum doesn't know one car from another hardly & its time to sell both their cars (as Dad can't drive no more ) & get something newer...
5 drs not estate & the local garage, with whom they have dealt for 50 years ) is now a KIA dealer (this is Irish Republic btw), so they're recommending something & Mum wants my opinion...
Its somewhere between Escort to Mondeo size, so what is it? What are they like? What are KIAs like generally in terms of reliability etc? It'd be 2nd hand (year old) & image is NOT a problem, reliability is, together with longevity - their current 2 cars have 300K + on them together!
My personal recommendation is a Focus but what anyone say?

The dealer that I got my Tavia from is now a Kia dealer, so when it went in for a service the other day I had a courtesy Kia - a Rio.
Although I think it was one of the more basic models in the range, it really did feel very basic (I had to wind down my own windows ), but at the end of the day it got me from A to B. But that's all that can be said for it!
I think the phrase "Cheap and Cheerful" sums them up!

Sephia / Mentor ?
Its the warranty etc that normally appeals to people but to be honest, get her to try a Skoda Fabia. I kid you not.
Make sure its the 1.4 16v or TDi (both are 100bhp) and she will not go wrong. Even you'll enjoy driving it.
I took one out on a long drive and have since swapped the Tek2 wagon for an Octavia. The Fabia had the 'new' Polo chassis before the Polo did, is brilliantly built, rides, steers, handles well and is fun to drive.
They won't regret it.
