Do you use the wax on your alloys?

Reason for asking:-
I'm using "Mothers" carnauba wax from the good 'ol USA. I don't think it's quite up to the level of WW, but t'was cheaper.
I don't want to enter a WW vs ANOther carnauba wax argument.....

I use the wax on my alloys. They seem to need more regular applications than the bodywork ~ I put this down to the harsher environment they endure (brake dust, general road salt & crud, and the fact that the top of the wheel travels through the air at twice road speed etc etc).

Despite keeping them pretty well waxed (I think), I'm starting to see slight yellowish "staining" on the "trailing face" of spokes on the front wheels.

Quest 1 ~ should the wax be enough to protect this?
Quest 2 ~ how should I remove? Don't want to go near any of the acid based wheel-cleaners. I could polish it, then re-apply wax, but then I'm removing paint.....should I get some of the WW non-acidic wheel cleaner stuff? Anyone used it? (I know there's more than one question there before someone points it out....they're related

unfortunately I sold my scooby on saturday, but in answer to your question ...

didn't bother with waxing the wheels after the first time I did it.

the zymol protection spray stuff does an excellent job, and I only used to apply it maybe once every month or so.

I only had to use the wheel cleaner once a month or so as well. the wax wizard shampoo in warm water was enough to get the wheels clean usually.

In answer to your question..the answer is yes wax your alloy wheels. provided you use a decent wax (the one you have is fine). I also do a liquid teflon based wax which will remove minor dirt and leave them sparkling clean as well as leaving a micro thin layer of teflon on.

The product Andrew W is or was using is or does smell off spearmint and not oranges. The product I make is MultiClean and this smells of oranges.

Try Zymol wheel cleaner.

It's citrus based (smells like oranges) and is not supposed to harm the wheels. I used it on my Speedline GT1s for a year without problems.

If it still won't shift, add a clay bar to the equation. Used in conjunction with the Zymol it will shift just about anything.

Edited to say I got the wheel cleaner from Mark, and it came with another bottle of stuff to spray on the wheels to protect them once they are clean. This stuff is excellent, and far easier to apply than waxing the wheels (especially with multispoke wheels).

So to clarify - you use protective spray in place of wax on your wheels now? (Or do you just use spray between applications of wax?)
