Lada Riva 1.6 v Skoda Favorit 1.6
#1
Straight line- Riva just wins it due to Skoda topping out at 74mph
Handling- Lada has slightly more grip but falters due to fuel surge. ALso have to watch out for terminal understeer. Victory Skoda.
Looks- Riva has to win with its twin red go-faster stripes.
Pulling factor- This has to be a draw as i bet if you pull up to the
local Bingo hall on over 60's night you'll have em queing up.
Overall- it has to be close but ill settle for the Lada due to build quality.
Thanks for reading this report

Wow, great review! However, I must admit that it would have to be the Skoda for me mainly because you can get some great tuning bits for it, as shown in the link above. Any ideas what that funky music is? I really wanna get a copy to play on the 8 track I have in the Favorit!
Edited to say that I have now bought one on the strength of your review! You said buy the Lada. Well, I never trust reviews so I bought the Skoda. What performance and style! Actually, maybe that should be a question not a statement.

I wish I still had a copy of Car magazine from the early 80s which showed how to uprate a Skoda 130 TC to Group N rally spec.
As well as the "how-to" guide they test-drove it, pissing off Golf and 205GTi drivers everywhere
IIRC the converted car did 0-60 in under 8 seconds and over 125mph ... and apparently handled just like a Porsche 911

brickboy - I had a 130 Turbo for a few months, it ate Nova's, XR's and the like without breaking into a sweat. Handling was entertaining in a mega tailout kind of way too
Barrel rolled it in the end though

I used to own a 70's Lada 1600, the handling was stunning. The steering was so heavy that I ran the tyres at about 50psi so I could park the thing and it still didn't lose grip while barrelling around the back lanes of Chshire.
The Russian guages were always a hit with the ladies and it had a wooden dashboard that wouldn't have looked out of place in a Cortina Ghia. Quality!
Sold it to a Lithuanian sailor in the end...

I went out with a bird with a lada, it was well funny, i refused to drive the thing, not through embarassment, but for safety reasons.
i think, from memory that the interior was well quite appointed.
it used to ferry me back from the boozer ok, anyway
BB
edited to say- i just plugged some speakers in, and the music had me in tears!!!! - jon-bon-tempi!!! hahaahahah

Unfair Test.
The Skoda easily won. It only has a 1.3, not the 1.6 of the Lada.
Oh and NA they can be pursuaded to produce 130BHP have a look at http://www.madfavorit.co.uk to see what you can do with a succesful engine tune. Not my car, but belongs to a Fellow Skoda Owners Club member. We are all mad I tell you.
Yep, Bristol Street used to do the Turbo conversions.
have seen several Fiat and Alpha powered rear engine Skuds. Bit tail happy, but interesting to drive with 150bhp, in a chassis originally restraining 53bhp.
