My Ma's car had a bit of sticky handbrake trouble this morning. I really had to give it some stick to free them. As it had only sat for two days, i'm assuming it's gonna be a recurring problem. Is this common with 172's?
I'm hoping to sort the problem this aft, but i'd like to know what exactly i need to do? Can any of you peeps show me the light? I'd rather sort it myself cos the local Main dealer employs a bunch of d1cks that unfortunately were let loose on my dearly departed 16v <nostalgic mode on>

sticky handbrake problem - My Renault 19 16v used to suffer from this...as does my wifes current Fiat Punto GT Turbo.
The problem appears to be that the rear brakes use enclosed shoes and a drum for the handbrake (guess the clios are probably the same) or the handbrake cable links to the back of the rear calipers on springs to push out the pistons. When its really cold outside (and you've parked up on the handbrake) the mechanisms actually freeze up.
My wifes solution is us use a hair dryer to free them off. Its a crap solution but the one that most Punto owners have to use. Sometimes using a specialist tool (read twating the edge of the rear tyre with a large rubber mallet) also does the same job.

This is my Mother we're talking about I did tell her to stick it in reverse and wait for the bang but she bottled it.
Like i said though, i really had to give it some stick, trying both forward and reverse. I think she would have ended up in Dad's Greenhouse if she'd managed to release it

well mine used to do it aswell. u need to take out the rear caliper pads and grease the pistons on a regular basis with a non lithium based grease this worked for me try it but DO NOT GET GREASE ON THE PADS!!!!!!!!!!! give it a try
