Looks like the RB5 will be sold soon as the other half wants a family car and she has decided on the Rav4. I must admit for comfort, size value etc I don't its bad at all, but the one question is ignoring price...diesel or petrol ???
The petrol is 141 bhp,180 nm (@4000) and the diesel is 114 bhp and 250nm (@1500-3000).
Forgetting price and economy which will be a better drive considering most driving will be in town.

We have two Rav's in the family one a 2.0 GX from 1995 and one a 1.8 NV from 2001 - both have been 100% reliable and great fun to drive.
Toyota reliability, dealer service and all aspects of ownership have been a pleasure.
I have not driven the Honda but do like the look of it.....
Just my pennies worth,
Richard

Thanks for the responses, will take a second look at the CRV have yet to test drive one but did look good in the showroom. Her indoors wants a Rav4 fullstop value comfort does not matter a Rav4 is want she wants !!!!
Looked at a forrester but I want a little more economy and something different. Never owned a 4x4 sort of thing.

CRV is not as stylish I'll admit but its the better car to drive, its massive inside in comparison and its residuals are the class leader.
As for the RAV4, better go for the diesel, the 2.0 D-4D engine is very good, and will offer better fuel economy and residuals over its petrol competitor.
Plus and I'm not sure if anyone has done it yet, but the latest diesels are always more suseptable to a little tweak here or there.......

I thought the D4-D engine was non turbo although it pulled like a turbo, most impressed with it. Can you tweak a non turbo ?

Its a common-rail turbo diesel, but like you say its not all whistles and turbo lag. Very progressive build up of boost, not like the VAG PD engines which come in with a bang, and being a Toyota will have a proper warranty if it ever breaks which they don't.

Sure you can't be tempted by the understeer, body roll, lack of thigh support, asthmatic engine ?
To be fair, you can't put an uncollapsed pram straight into the boot of the Lancer/Cedia....

We've got a Rav4 3dr in the family, NRG, which is 2.0L and full time 4wd.
Mate has a brand new CRV.
Honda is quite different, more refined, more space, but lacks the "fun" factor the Rav has.
I'd say the CRV is for when you grow up a bit
RAV is faster (but then its the 3dr), and a whole lot "funkier". It is also more fun to chuck around than the Honda.
Oh, and the CRV is hardly a good looker
BUT
Average MPG is less than 30 in the RAV and drops to low 20's if just tooling around town.
Next time I would go for the turbodiesel one. Too young for the CRV..LOL...
