Why have Escort Cossies hardly depreciated?
#3
For the same reason Audi quattro's, E30 M3's, Merc Cosworths, Integrale's, RS500's all hold their money, relatively speaking.
Decent ones are so hard to find these days, that anyone with a minter can ask a good whack for them.
Also, the above tend to represent the last true 'drivers' car these manufacturers made and have a bit of history/myth attached to them.

it's not *just* they're weren't many made...there are lots of cars that weren't made in great numbers that depreciate like ****....
it's also because people still want them, demand if u like, so sellers can ask a good price for them.
just my opinion - cossies were a car to be seen in...then they became a boy racers wet dream/thieve magnet, image suffered accordingly....but now the divvys are going for more jap stuff, which in turn is slowly reversing the bad image of the typical cossie owner as the divs aren't into them as much nowadays (good 4 cossie owners, bad for jap car owners).

There's a lot of money in Essex !
No, Even though they are Ancient, they are an Icon, there must be 20 Scoobs for every Escort Cossie, it was a Sierra with and Escort body shell which appeals to me
A standard one isnt even that quick by modern standards but how many standard ones are left ?
Still not as sexy as the holy Grale, but way more exclusive than the Scoob (of any description except perhaps a 22b)

If it was a reference to Dagenham then the Escort Cossies where built by a company called Karmann in Germany.......not Dagenham

FatherPierre, thank you, at least you got it !
I was merely refering to a cliche about Fast Fords in general and wasn't hoping to offend Escort Cossie owners as I have a lot of respect for these cars.
And I would imagine a fair few nice Escort Cosworths are actually to be found in Essex !
Rarely see one in Cheshire, mainly TT's and Merc CLK's which arent to my taste.....
Far too subtle

I think you'll find they'll go down in value now that one has appeared in Eastenders...
P.S. Did anone see the owner when he came to collect it. Escort Cossie driver with a Baseball Bat? Surely Not...
Light the touchpaper and stand back...

Just had a look at a few for ssle and 99% are all standard cars, funny when anyone asks an owner they are all 400+bhp chipped examples, so what gives .
Seem to be able to pick up one for about 10-12K about half the cost when it was new ??. Not bad for a 10 year old car but if it is a standard car you buy how long has it been back to standard ?.
There are probably a few about but the beauty of these cars were that you could tune them so why so many "untouched", "never modded", "unchipped" 10 year old examples.
There have been some horror stories in the past by bad tunning personally a modified car wouldnt put me off as long as the work had been done by a reputable/knowledgable firm with reciepts and bills. At least I would know the history and if it was left that way it was I woudlnt have to spend so much modding it.

With refernect to Merc-Cosworth's answer, you will probably find that, with the exception of the RS500, they were the ONLY true drivers cars their respective manufacturers made
Although in truth, by today's standards the early 10V Quattros were actually complete dogs to drive

Well seeing as all Cosworths from the 2wd Sapphire onwards were the same thing I just put RS500 to refer to Cossie in all its incarnations.
The 10v quattro is the puppies - if you like that sort of thing - and quite a lot of people do.
Mid-Eighties performance saloons are an acquired taste if you been brought up on over engined FWD hatches (as I suspect many in the scoob world have). Chassis poise and balance, appalling brakes and feed back a modern car driver can only dream of.
Thats why you'll look to pay at least £6000 for a good example of any of these cars, despite some of them being over 16 years old.

I have a 'J' plate 20v UR Quattro in my garage with 50K on the clock. It is a beautiful car, but if I had the choice I'd take the Impreza every time. The Audi is a lot slower and not very rewarding to drive....to be honest it drive like a car that was designed over 20 years ago which it is!!!
Dom.
Oh, remember my Audi cost over 40K when she was new!!

Going back to the original topic, the Escort is more likely to be a future classic as they're not being made anymore and were limited in numbers.
The Impreza is quite unlikely now to be regarded as a classic, unless FHI stop making them now. There's just too many of them about.

The 20V is not for sale, Sorry!! I think that the UR quattros will become very collectable and as mine is one of the last ever made and the only 'J' reg that I've ever seen I think it might be worth a lot of money in the near future.
I do not know why Cossie Escorts hold their money so well, the Sierra's certainly haven't!!

IIRC about 7k were made and there are about 1500 left. Yes, you can pick one up for the prices mentioned - but it won't be a low mileage, good condition one. RS500's minimum price is 11-12k [some going for considerably more] and a 3dr will go for anything 6-7k and above! A good condition Sapph will fetch a high price too.

I would have to disagree, mainly cos I've got one.
yes its a challenge but its not a dog. When you get it right its soooooooooooooo satisfying.
When did you last drive one?
