You're asking the right person. I bought one of these and hope to be running the Charade GTti owners club soon. I'm working on a site that will have buyers guides and stuff on but that might be a while. I bought one as to be honest it was much faster than my Impreza ( the one I went in had 157bhp ) due to it having about have the weight !

Forget Parker's guide prices ! They reckon you can get a good one for like a few hundred quid. you'll be lucky. Good cars start at £1400 ish and go to about £3000.

The engines are super strong and can push out around 150 in mild tune and 180 with more money spent. There are cars out there with ovwr 200bhp ie Matt Slades 225bhp monster.

Drop me a mail with whatever you want to know .

If you want a good bbs to get advice try bbs.daihard.org , I'm on there as AllanB too .Here is the site , be warned its my first and its very incomplete .

I have onwed one for the last 4 years and i still can't get bored of it. It's running on 1.2 bar and i the car whoops some serious ar*e. GO FOR IT. The only problem i have had was with the warm Greek weather, and my cylinder head cracked between cylinders 2 and 3. Apart from that, i didn't have any problems.
PS. Buy a decent suspension kit, and a turbo timer

Mate had one which I drove a few times (and worked on)
Top little car and went like stink up to 90, but very flimsy plasic in the cabin. The Alternator packed up and he was quoted £200 from the local daihatsu dealer so I got him one for £25 off a mazda 626 I think. Daihatsu will shaft you on spares so it pays to rummage through the breakers for parts off other jap cars as they share loads of common components.

I had a 92K before the scoob, loved every minute of ownership .

As long as you know what you're in for i.e.

Fantastic engine
Cheap and drab interior
useless seats
suspension too hard or too soft, depending on MY
lift off oversteer-a-plenty.

The handling can be sorted and the engines are trouble free as long as they're serviced regularly. I also had a BBR chip in mine which was manic! Top fun, bags of character and utterly reliable. Sold it in March 2000 with 32k on the clock for £3000. Good ones are very rare these days..
