330D everytime. I'm no lover of diesels, but I have to say taking a ride in MattOz's 330D around Nurburgring was a relevation. Incredible car, IMHO the best in the entire 3 series range. You just don't expect it to go (and handle with the BMW sports suspension kit that Matt had on his car) like it does.

The only time you would guess it was a diesel was on the initial start up when the engine was cold and you'd get a slight diesel rattle. After that it sounds like any other 6 cylinder BM - quality motor.

Largely on the back of the ride in Matt's car, I would seriously consider owning one myself.

Chris

Question

Has anybody driven both of these ... is the extra cash for the 330 worth it compared to the 150bhp 320d.

Have driven both- 320d is a quick car but not exhilerating, 330d is fantastic (used to have a 328i coupe sport and 330d was quicker (don't know on paper but it felt it) only drawback is you don't get the same noise with the diesels that you get with the straight 6's!

Both ace cars!

Cool

330d everytime. I'm on my second one, and they're fantastic. A mate at work has a 320d, and it's just not in the same league. Both nice cars, but the 330 is a bit more special, IMHO.

Hear, hear.

Nearly opted for a fully specced 320d but ended up getting a 330d after driving it. No contest.

Cheers

Only derv machine I would consider - 288 lb ft of torque says it all really. Is it true that you can kick the tail out on them same as old big engined BM's used to??

Turn off the DSC and you can smoke the tyres to your hearts content. Just had mine superchipped (approximately 210bhp with 350lbs of torque). A very competent car indeed!

Its the same engine in the 530d and it makes it the fastest 5 series (when talking about in-gear) apart from the 540 and M5

I'm on my 3rd 330d and they are great cars,in gear they can give alot cars a fright,ok acceleration of the line but accelerates well once motoring,i have a TuningBox CR51 on mine and its 220bhp and 324lbs/ft torque, totally transforms the car.

Forgot to say i tried both the A4 1.9TDi and the 2.5TDi,was quite impressed with both, found the interior of the A4 very well put together and solid,i would say it is as equally as good if not better than the E46 interior except the excellent Sports seats in the 330d Sport. But the 330d feels quicker and more involving.
But overall i thought the 330d Sport was the better package, but the A4 2.5TDi is an excellent car in its own right. Just a pity you can't get the 330xd in the U.K.as the quattro system nearly tempted me to go for the Audi instead.

I tried the 180 TDI V6 when I got my 330d, nice, but not as quick, and sounds more 'dieselly'.
