My 1974 Ford Capri came with all seatbelts as standard, I also drove various Ford Escorts at that time, One a P reg Popular 1976mod (Square shape is that Mark 2?) and it had seat belts as standard.
Also drove various Ford Cortinas and Granadas and Consuls of that era and all had seat belts fitted as standard.

I was also passenger in a 1.3 litre T reg 1978 Ford Escort (square type again)which had seat belts fitted as standard and which subsequently save my friends life when he plowed off the road late at night.

I am quite sure in my own mind that all 1978 Ford Escorts would be fitted with seat belts as standard.

you're right, they dont know their 4rse from their knees over there!!!

they have what i call Comet Syndrome....

i'll explain... you ask what size tv screens they do and they dont know, yet they can give you a part number to 11 decimal places for a rowenta kettle element, straight off the top of their heads!!!

t055ers the lot of them.....

as it happens xr3's were quite wicked in their time....
and still suprisingly quick!!! (if you can find a decent one now!!)

Sorry for not replying sooner lads. My m8 wasn't quite sure if his wife said it was a Y-reg or a '78 MK2

She was talking about front seatbelts only.

Thanks for the info.

Stefan

Question

My friends wife (a lawyer) needs to find out if a Y-reg (1978, I think) came fitted with seatbelts as standard.

Anyone know where we could find this out?

Cool

Whether it be a Y reg, or a 78 (T?), it should have been fitted with front seatbelts of some description.

b) use a telephone.

...Just a suggestion (God, I'm starting tpo sound like Claudius)!!!!

BB, smart idea, but I can see two potentially fatal flaws in your cunning plan:

1: Ford Europe Head Office is in Germany and they probably won't even speak to her.

2: The average Ford dealership hasn't got a clue about the spec of the current range, let alone a car that went out of production before the average salesman was even born,

My mk2, '78, 1600 sport had seat belts

Rear belts are only required from 1986 onwards... D reg. That would make it a mk3 or 4
