I'm currently hunting for an Integra Type R, my broher in law has just bought a 225 bhp TT and is under the impression that it is quicker and has better handling than a standard Teg; can some shed some views on this please!!!

No, but I can sell you one

Great cars, a more pure driving experience than the TT, but not necessarily quicker, just a lot more involving, and a lot more fun!!

I drove a 225 round Mallory park, they are grippy, but so boring I couldnt believe!! very composed, reasonable grunt, but no excitement, even on a race track (this is in comparison to the Teg, before all the TT drivers get their mullets in a mess )

Id go with the Teg, more unique, lots more fun, and a car you develope driving skills for, rather than appreciate electronic gadgetry.

All in MHO of course

Yes. I had a teg till recently, and had no problems keeping up with 225 TTs, straight line or otherwise. I'm not saying it was faster, but about the same.

I'm sure the TT is a very competent car, but a totally different beast from the hardcore, road racer the teg is. Absolutely fantastic driving machine. Get one, learn to drive it and you'll **** a lot of people off.

IntegraR, have you still got yours? I went through a Caterham 7 HPC, and now I have on my wife's insistence ordered a Clio Cup. Hope it'll be OK...

Yip, still got it, tentatively for sale thou
dont think Ill find anything as fun for a while, specially as Im doing one of those silly cost cutting excercises, which never actually cut any costs. I have 4 points, and only 1 years ncb, so insurance aint fun, and ive been balancing this and that lately, doing that stupid "if I sold the car, I would have such and such to spend on....um....more beer".

Its been a blast thou, and if it doesnt sell, Im not bothered, so may end up keeping it after all.

Um, that was really off topic, hang on, TT - boring but quick Teg - fun and almost as quick

Hi,

To quote some figures (from EVO)

Standard Teg

187 bhp @ 8000
131 lbsft @ 7300
0-60 6.2
0-100 17.9
weight 1101kg
173bhp/ton

225 TT

225bhp @ 5900
206 lbsft @ 2200
0-60 6.1
0-100 16.7
weight 1395kg
164bhp/ton

TT has much more grunt lower down but has more weight and 4wd transmission losses.

Having only driven the Teg - have to keep it on the boil to make the most of it. Throw away all sympathy for the screams of the engine and it's very quick.

Spend a grand on the TT though and it's up to 280 brake and 270 ft/lb

Or so i have heard

also the suspension can be sorted for about 800 quid with a full koni adjustable set up- which is nice

Goddamn!! so you spend like 26 grand on an upside down pudding bowl, and then have to fork out £1800to get it to perform properly?

I owned an Integra R prior to my MY00 Scooby and have been a passenger in a 225 TT.

Firstly they are completely different cars and both have their merits.

The Teg is a raw, exciting experience. Get on a quiet twisty road, get the revs up and it is one of the most enjoyable cars I have ever been in. IMHO it is the best handling car I have ever been in. If I could get a turn-in and front end feel like it had in my Scooby I would be a happy man.
The Evo mag performance figures do not show the in gear times for the Honda. I can't remeber them off hand but they are comparable with a standard UK Scoob. And the VTEC noise....

On the other hand the TT is an extremely well built, quality car. It is a lot softer, I felt the one I was in rolled about heaps. They are very quiet and civilised.

Comparing the two out on the open road I don't think there would be that much in it. I honestly feel the Integra would be the most involving handling, best noise, best value for money and importantly the most fun

Chris G - I'm sure a lot of people with 10-12k to spend will be trying to choose between an Integra Type R and a MY98-00 Scooby (as two of the best recent drivers cars) so how do the two compare as ownership propositions?

Turboboost,
I loved my Integra and probably would have kept it a fair bit longer if my wife drove it (the drivers seat wasn't height adjustable).

The main downside of the Integra is the lack of lowdown torque - it was great fun to rev the pants off it when you are on your own, but when you have a "more mature" passenger they think you are a nutter for going from 5th to 3rd then pinging it up to 8500 revs just to overtake something! Great fun but you had to be in the mood. I guess the novolty wore off a bit.
IMHO the handling was much better than a standard Scoob. The Impreza has lots of grip but the Integra feels much better on the road.
Also, tuning goodies for a VTEC are fewer and a lot more expensive for a lot less gain compared to a Scoob - spend £1000 on an Integra and get maybe 15bhp? Spend the same amount on a Scooby and you will get three times that.

If I was going to be spending £10-12, both cars would be on my shortlist. I reckon I would go for a scoob tho, get a full de-cat, prodrive wheel alignment, oh aye and a TEK3

In saying that I am thinking of selling my MY00 just now. If the new age Integra R was available as an official UK car I would be very interested in one.

the teg is a mega track car(I had one) basically on track you will be pretty much on the boil all the time, so it realls people in like they are stood still, it also goes round corners on rails.

top motor, I owned one, loved it.

however, it takes some work to get it going, little down the bottom end too.

very raw, thrilling, noisy, solid(ish) and predictable too.

Id have it every time over the TT, the TT is much more of a posers car, the Teg is the drivers car, a grown up 106 rallye

do it

Wrong to compare the 2 cars together as they are in a different class.

If you're buying a car purely for it's performance don't look at the TT as that's not what it was designed for.

If you're buying a car for a combination of looks and performance, include the TT in the final shortlist.
