I'm probably going to get flamed by my fellow scooby owners for this but, I think they are the bollox, they were a league ahead of the sapphire in every respect.
P.S. By a rottweiler and build it a kennel in the boot, it is the only way you'll keep it!

Jen, admit it, it was too much of a "proper" car for you...

I had a go in one a few weeks ago and couldnt belive how dated the feel.
They look fantastic from the out side but inside is so old looking, and as for the gearbox , my Scoob turbo has got a prodrive quick shift on it and i couldnt belive how sloppy the gead box felt.
This was on a car that had done 24k, I thought the box had had it so I sat in another at the same place but that felt just as bad.
It was a big dissapointment to me as I realy do love thew way they look but it wasnt a patch on my Scooby.

If your looking for any speed info, my mate has a big turbo model and i can get off a bit quicker in my scoob BUT once his turbo comes on song its a different story. Traffic light sprints are usually my game but dual carridgeways/ motorways are no comparison. I have driven his escort and it drives very differently to my car... my cars power seems more progressive whereas his car has some bad lag and then BOOM..... not to keen on the gearchange either but when have ford ever made a nice gearchange?? not to sure on the interior comment i think the dash is quality compared to the scoob... however IMHO i would rather have a newer scoob than an escort cos.... more of a harsh rally feel than a mental family car...

Cheers for all the replies guy's. My mate's dad is well into his cossies and he said the year I am buying comes with the small turbo....not sure if this is a good or bad thing.
Also I drove a Sierra and the gear change on that was bad, really have to make sure you select a gear and a long throw where as the Impreza I owned had a short shift kit and the gear change was great.
Just going to take time to get used to. Also the interior should be nice as it is the Lux with the Leather.
I will inform you of my first opinions as I have owned a Scoob already, UK model so will be good to compare.

The smaller turbo will pick up better. However it wont have the mad "chuck you in the seat" deal of the larger turbo models. These can still be done to around 350bhp or so and you can change the turbo for the larger one. Several companies offer this.
astraboy.
P.S. you are right about the gearboxes on Cosworths. Everything else is a mad flurry but the box is the one thing you just cannot rush.

I like em, shame about the interior tho (Not that my STI-V has class interior tho!)
Was looking at a 94 L Ash Black Metallic Lux with small turbo, still think they look the nuts

Look ok on the outside, driver requires baseball cap, Impossibible to insure, dont go too well, sound crap, steering vague, understatement, very cramped inside, and incredabley overpriced.

I'm on my second, and have had a 2wd Sapphire before. Handling and steering (turn in) are quite different from a 2wd, much nicer IMO.
Attu, they are getting on in years now, but the dash is still better than a modern Scoob one (again, imo). Have to agree with you about the gear change though, but you soon get used to it - depends what you're used to I suppose. You just have to be careful and deliberate with your changes, the synchro's in the 4x4 box don't like you to 'race' the change.
M8tt J, you've bought it so no good worrying now if you've made the right choice . But I don't think you'll be dissapointed (unless it's a standard large turbo in which case it might feel a bit lethargic, but still manages 0-60 in around 5.7 secs, but then you can always uprate it for reasonable money and still keep it reliable)
Oh, and if it still has standard Ford bushes in the front, get some poly' bushes in there, it makes a world of difference as the Ford ones might as well be made of plasticine!
- enjoy!
