Saab 9000
#2
Not got one myself, but my dad had a 9000S in 1988, followed by a 9000 CS 2.0LPT SE in 1993 (subsequently a 900 and a 9-3). I drove the 9000S quite a lot and loved it, very smooth (even before it had the balancer shaft engine) and it felt fast, to me, at that time. Completely lovely inside too, and bargains now.

The turbos are VERY tunable too -- they respond very well to tweaking the wastegate actuator and I think you can adjust the ECUs manually .... a mate has a 2.0t which he's done bits & bobs too and it goes very well. Huge inside too.

Talking of old men, i picked up a clean 9000 Carlsson last week on a G-plate in black for my old man for £250!, some old boy was selling it on behalf of his late brother-in-law and didnt know what it was!
A quick tweak to 14 psi (standard 12psi) and he's well impressed, he's getting leather fitted for £100 on thursday!
Pete.

Bloody hell! Let me know when you're old man's finished with it, I'll buy it off you for £350 ;-)
The Carlssons are effing quick cars ... plant the throttle in one of those at 70 on the motorway and watch everything disappear in the rear view mirror ...

Hi Shunty,
I got myself an old 9000XSi a few months back.
Love it, its every thing that the Terzo isn't.
Mainly got it to keep the 50 miles per day commute of the scoob but it has the advantage of being very BIG.

Ian_s:
I'm really looking forward to picking it up, should get it tomorrow.
btw did you know that saab got the highest mark for safety, with bmw as second. It's nice to know that the missus & kids will be nice & safe
It's full of options as well, leather, climate, full electrics, cruise, nice auto box with full saab service history, 1 owner....big mileage though hence the price of £1700, for a 1995 M reg 9000 CDE 2.3t.
But I've been told that they are good for 200-300,000 miles

Picking one up on Friday as the missus's runabout. Cheaper year for year than a Fiesta, ferchrissake. They're not fast but they waft beautifully.
Re mileage, look as some of the US Saab bulletin boards - there are people on there with 500k + on their 900/9000. Clearly mad, but shows the cars can take it.

Had a Saab prior to getting the Scoob.. Ran faultless for 3 years and the seats were to die for.. Did 850 miles back from the dordogne in one go with only a break in the tunnel.. Fresh as a daisy... I have a numb **** in the Scoob after about 100 miles..

Ian -
alpine - I only took it for a brief test drive...but the seats were as you say so comfortable, like having a 3 piece suite in the car
I am looking forward to using it for work for a few days of the week as I have 30 mile round trip on the M621 every day, so auto g/box will be great.
the other benefit is then when I get into my scoob, I realise how fookin quick & how great the handling is.

I have one too. The pipe and slippers image is superb, as I get to surprise so many Vectra's et al in my 220BHP old mans car!
I'm afraid I don't need much of an excuse to post a piccie of my car

Forgot to say:
It is a Carlsson model - 2.3 Full Pressure Turbo. Bit like the later Aero model, but wilder! 5BHP less than an Aero, though feels quicker because of the gearing. Plenty torque steer 160,000 miles and still boosts well into the red - most motoring fun I know of for that sort of money (£2k)
