Audi S3.

I bought myself one a few months ago, it's a fun little car, grips well, accelerates well, brakes well and I have to say, is much better than the older generation S3's.
Performance wise (with DSG) they are pretty much on a par with the outgoing RS3 due to the new car shedding a load of weight, the turbo is very responsive, acceleration from 2000 upwards with little to no lag at all. Fuel economy is impressive, it's easy enough to average 35mpg over the whole tank, and up to low 40's on a run. Tax/insurance, cheap as chips, it scores pretty well here too.
Performance wise timed with a vbox standard...
After a tuning box fitted...
1/4m time, 12.00 dead....

With a bit more running in and some cooler weather, the car will hit 11.9, all that's on it is a £400 piggyback tuning box. (All that is currently available)
The next RS3 should be a hoot based on these figures but is probably a good 9 months away before release yet.
Okay, with Audi's very safe haldex 4wd, it's never going to be a fantastic track car, there is still some under steer apparent when pushing hard, but for day to day, British roads, in all weather conditions, they are great little cars. I'll probably keep for another 6 months or so and look at getting back into another fast saloon around then, but my score out of 10 would be 8.5

I've got a 3 door with DSG on order for 1st of March complete with the fancy seats as well.
Was surprised how different it was to the previous model S3 which I'd had a few years back. Much more grown up but felt lighter and that I would find the DSG better than a manual gearbox.
Will be going down the tuning box route myself as well, - which model did you go for Leo RS ?
Richard

I am currently driving a courtesy posh van; a Caravelle Executive. Now I know it will be set up differently but the DSG box it total and utter turds.
It's worse than bad full autos I've used; hesitates, jerks, changes at the wrong times (e.g changes up when slowly going up a 25% hill). It's driving me nuts.
Sorry but the BM sport auto is light years ahead.

It was better in the CC (Passat coupe) we had but still pretty poor.
Thanks to our troublesome van, I think I've now driven almost all models of VW now.
The Up had an auto box so horrific, I genuinely thought it was broken; but that's not DSG.
Does it stand for Decidedly Shoddy Gearchanges?

What the rather disappointing RS4 (after the great B7)? The two tonne RS6? Or the understeer king that is the RS3?
Nope.
The new S3 appears to be a major step forwards for Audis performance division but they still make more duffers than good cars.
Anyway it's the same principle and in the vehicles I've driven, it's cr4p.
And yes it's the Daily Fail but they appear to be a tad problematic too…

Anyway, I'm not talking riddles with you, so just carry on trying to compare everything to your car (just like when you had the 335d)

360 I think; which isn't a vast amount but makes the numbers even more impressive.
Whatever I think of the S3 (actually quite like it) that is bar steward quick.
But I still think an M135i is more fun and JB4 gets you 360bhp. More tuning sees 400. TBH it's got plenty as standard (I've had a few waa hey moments already!) but get it right and it's SO rewarding.
I'm only saying this as an alternative suggestion.
Oh and the standard S3 hatch looks way better than the saloon or bigger hatch IMO.
