Default New toy

Just bought this...

Not many of these made I believe, still under approved used warranty with BMW until end of November.

Just had a complete new gearbox at BMW - £4.5k so hopefully no problems with the SMG for a while..

Loving the drive, SMG takes some getting used to but I'm getting there - quite jerky at low speeds until you get used to it. It also has launch control but not tried it yet.

Still got the RX8, not sure whether to sell or keep, prices are still plummeting

Most of the subframe failures are in early 328's and all year M3's. Later 330's can have the problem but it's not very common. The previous owner says the floor has been checked by BMW but I only have his word for this.

Not sure if I like the spoiler but it's as from the factory so it will stay

Standard wheels are split rims but these were a no cost option from what I can see.

I paid £3900, very difficult car to value as there are not many around, n some respects it's just a 330ci but the clubsport seems to hold its price quite well.

With a car this age I tend to go on condition, wheels need a refurb and a few bits of paint to touch up but other than that it drives looks and drives as new. It has all the benefits of the approved used warranty for another 3 months (which I can renew) so was happy with the price.

One surprise is how good it is on fuel. 250 mile drive back and it averaged 37 mpg according to the computer. It's currently averaging mid 20's around town and general spirited driving

its more common on m3's compared to the lower power versions due to the extra stress it puts on it, was this the one for sale on here?

No, it wasn't for sale on here.

The subframe failure rate 2002 onwards was massively reduced due to a change in the welding process. Still possible but rare.

um, not sure where you heard that mate but it doesnt track with m3's. they failed throught the years, reddish example one was a 2004. but as said its more m3's cos of the extra power they kicked out.

i wouldnt worry about it, like the 2.5's they dont all fail

Well if I see the rear axle being left behind in my rear view mirror then I will start worrying.

Having said that the worst I can lose is the £3900 I paid for it, far less than I would have lost driving out the showroom in a brand new example. A cracked subframe mount can be fully repaired for C£1200 anyway.

Cheers F1, I've bought many new cars over the years but lately have been getting far more enjoyment spending a few grand on something.

I know exactly what you mean. A different car to your BMW and for a different purpose, but I just found a pretty much immaculate Mazda 6 estate for peanuts and all that is really 'wrong' with it is the wheels are a bit tatty. One owner, 64K miles, fsh, interior looks like it has never been sat in, exterior has a few stone chips, but no dents or scratches..... it's kind of fun seeking them out.

Looks great!

Met five other M135i owners last night and was mildly reassured that we were all a bit OCD when it comes to car care. We'd ALL polished, clayed, etc, our brand new cars when we got them...
