Question

I am seriously considering to buy a 1985 911 Targa.
It is in top condition, but has 90 000 miles on the clock.
Does anyone has any experience with these older Porkers?

I currently drive a 2000 Impreza GT. How does it compare to that, in terms of fun? Guess, it is not that fast in bends and in the wet.

Looks like you missed this thread. Lots of useful info in there.

Are you sure you want a Targa? Least driver-oriented version, and I (personally) don't like that slab of glass rearward of the C-pillar (or is it a B-pillar?). Fortunately they appear to be cheaper than the equivalent Coupé.

Mate of mine ran a standard mid-80s 911SC for a while, it had 105K on it when he got it. I remember the watchwords (apart from usual performance car consumables like brakes etc) were:

- stainless heat exchanger / exhaust. They rot through quickly, so if you don't have recent bill for one, budget for it (around £800 fitted)

- I think the camchain tensioner needs checking -- it's part of a regular service so look for a big history file with receipts.

Bodies are galvanised so if there's any rust showing it's been crashed & repaired.
