STi 7 brakes ... amazing

Right, before we go off, this is not meant as an x vs y thread OK ?
Just that I was totally *AMAZED* to see the stopping power of the STi7 being beyond Porsche territory
For those of you who know the German magazine Sport Auto, I don't need to explain. For those who don't, let's just say that on the information side (not the writing style) the eat most other magazines for breakfast.
And yup, they did an EVO VII versus STI 7 this month
In these tests, they always measure stopping distances from 100 km/h to 0 (62 mph - O ) with both cold & warm discs.
The STi got pretty good numbers on the cold braking (37 something meters) ... but got an amazing 33. something meters with hot discs That is more than 11 m/s2 which is really supercar league.
For comparison: the new 911 Carrera 4S (no one ever accused Porsche of having bad brakes) takes 35.7 meters (10.8 m/s2)
Whatever the arguments about the car, it seems that Subaru this time really listened to their customers.
For more numbers (stopping distance in meters): see the top 10 of all times on the cars they tested ...

Thats very impressive Theo, at Prodrive live we couldn't really see how good the brakes were on the STI7 as the servo's were disconected, but once they warmed up and pushed the pedal down (HARD) they were impressive.

Harj, yeah, but that was on Prodrive ground, so you might (if you are paranoid) suspect that they worked on the brakes etc etc... you know how people tend to doubt things.
But this is done by a mag that ordered standard cars, and although they admittedly LOVE the Impreza & the Evo, they would only possibly be accused of favoring Porsches etc (which they don't BTW )
What struck me is that dispite hundreds of posts on this BBS, loads of mags & TV reports, no one has mentioned this little fact.
Oh, and to put fuel to the fire... they *really* compare the cars, and yup, the EVO out of the box is the quicker better handling car by a small margin. Nothing that can not be sorted though with deleting a few cats, but a clear "winner" (based on measurements, not someone who has a thought or a preference) the EVO was nonetheless. (except for the brakes )

FreeT, I have to buy the mag on Monday to give you a totally accurate number (had a quick look at the dealer today) but I think there was a 4 meter difference between the two. That is a *lot*.
Don't forget the STi is a "heavy" car (all things considered)
I first thought it was a typo in their stats, but nope, they had a lot of praise for it in their comments as well.

My subjective experience of the Sti VII was that the brakes were very good - and I have 6pot APs with DS2500 pads which are superb.
On the road they were comparable in capability - I certainly didn't miss any braking power - and this is in a car that is nearly 200kg heavier than mine.

Thanks Trout, it seems your experiences are pretty much in line with the article... AP 6 pots with DS2500 are not exactly bad kit either (!), so to have the same stopping power (in feel) with 200 kg more ... like I said, amazing.
Sometimes I wished to see less opinion and more of these little facts on Scoobynet... </old fart mode>. Not meant as a dab towards other users, but seeing the STi stopping better than a 360 Modena, I would expect those things to be SHOUTED all over Scoobynet

Thanks for heads up, will go and buy a copy of Sport Auto. Point regarding information content of this magazine is well made, and information content is the reason why I am reading 'ScoobyNet General' a lot less

Don't know what your budget is, and how much unsprung weight you want to run, but you should consider AP 4 Pots + Pagid Blue if you do a lot of track work. They also fit under standard 16 inch wheels

Chris, digging into my memory (now there's reliable for ya ) I'm pretty sure that the ceramic brakes actually scored lower (slightly bigger distance) than the "normal" ones, but this may have changed since that test last year.
Remembered this because I found it odd that these expensive jobbies did not actually shorten the stopping distance (but probably a lot more fade resistant, mind).
Will look up that article too later today.

I took one for a test drive and wished I'd taken some sunglasses to stop my eyeballs touching the windscreen impressive.
So i bought one 4 weeks to go as for Driven program spongy brakes and looks like you got to drive it hard what do think the right feet are for whats her name Peannis Mallortw4t or something like that
