Is it just me or has anyone else noticed Scoobynet can be very slow, especially in the evening.I know other people on ASDL who find this too.
Recently 2 other BB's i'm on have deleted all threads over 10 days old and there has been a huge increase in speed. They too were becoming annoyingly slow.
I'm no computer expert ,but would deleting all old threads improve the situation.
What do you think, and would you be in favour of it?

Red face

Sorry to hear that Dunk. I've only ever had the BY service go down once in 18 months Then all it took was a quick reset of the modem.

Must be certain parts of the country that have more probs than others.

Mines been pretty good up til now. Had it for about 9 months with no major problems. It just suddenly went down and couldn't get a downstream connection.

Logged a call and they said they'd send an engineer round . . . on Saturday Luckily it righted itself last night Started to get withdrawals

Bioforger, sorry m8 but couldn't resist

I live in central Scotland, but in a very small village and I've had cable TV for 6 years and my cable modem for 18mths. I work in a large town near Edinburgh and even parts of that don't even have cable TV yet

You'd have thought the large populated areas would get it first and those (like me) in small villages would struggle

I've had to use a modem from a laptop when out of the office and I can't believe just how frustrating it is compared to Broadband

If it were up to me, I'd make it law that everyone should have broadband (free of course ).

Hi All

Deleting the old threads will have no real effect on the speed.

The server is far from stretched and copes with the (admitedly huge) traffic at all times of day and night.

The busiest times are around lunch time. After 7 sounds like a general internet useage problem rather than anything directly related to scoobynet.

It could be something to do with your service provider or their route to scoobynet during busy internet times?

It would be worth trying a different provider if it is not too much hassle.

All the best

Simon

LOL

Unfortunately search makes the server way overstretched

This will be different when I get time to re-write the search software to make it more efficient.

All the best

I use NTL through a 56K modem and have not experienced any slow down in Scoobynet responses.

Thumbs up

My 2p for your interest.

I use Virgin on a 56k analogue dial up. Very frustrating at times after coming home from work where we have 2x ADSL just for surfing and email (spoilt with license to surf as we write software for use on the Internet). However I find SN performs fine for me on the 56K, anytime 7pm - 12 midnight. Yes a bit slower than ADSL, of course, but not ever unusable.

Pipex ADSL coming 5th June, roll on...
