You were asking for a salt grinder in 2012 as well.

https://www.scoobynet.com/non-scooby...s-shakers.html

I have a huge, all marble one with very efficient, heavy duty crunching mechanism to it. I don't know where I got it from, but I've had it for 12 years, and no complaints whatsoever.

Buy a solid, kick@ss salt grinder, Duncan. May cost you a bit, but that should stop this annual trouble for looking for a new, another tacky one.

So, do you have your fish n' chips without any salt, and just the vinegar, then? May be your don't do vinegar either, because it's bad for you, too? May be you don't eat fish and chips either because they make you put on weight? May be you don't eat anything because every edible thing has some drawbacks to it?

You really don't know what you are missing, man. A fine British cuisine i.e. deep fried, oil soaked fish n' chips with ample salt and vinegar on top.

Have you heard of a phrase- "Change is the salt of life"? This indicates that adding salt to your food will make it more tasty. I do know that adding salt to the injuries would make the matters worse, so salt is not all that good for everything.

I know you'll say that there's already enough salt in veges and meat to satisfy what our bodily needs, but going for what your tongue wants once in a while doesn't kill, believe me. You can't regiment yourself to just the 'need' in life, you have to go for a 'want' sometimes to enjoy this earth.

Please don't miss out. Sprinkle some salt on your chips next time. I even sprinkle my dearest red chilli powder on my chips, I do.

Then again, if you've conditioned yourself to live without any additional salt to your food, well done, because that's not a bad thing to do.

We should probably have a thread; who has the most expensive, ostentatious, most phallic salt-grinder. A bit like the "I need a £2000 coffee machine" threads.

LOL bright idea! My salt grinder will look a pathetic two-incher in comparison to what some super wealthy ones might have here.

He can always buy one of the weird looking ones. They’ll look like a piece of wood, and he can tell people that they’re just there for show.

From this> http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mairi-..._b_120226.html

“How about a reclaimed wood pepper grinder from artist Cam Lavers? Each mill is carved out of naturally fallen tree branches -- they even have exclusive lines gnawed by beavers and deers”.

Or, if he’s not into salt, he can always buy this for his pepper and brag about it here>

Or just crush it between fingers and thumb like us Chefs do. Saves on washing up

Knife and chopping board mate. Granted it takes a smidge longer but if the board and knife are out anyway.........saves on washing up plus a useful skill in the event of a lack of kit.

yes - is what I do, the pestle and mortar simply acts as nice receptacle - looks better than the box on the kitchen counter

and totally agree with the cutting garlic comment - it is utimaltly the best way

the crusher is a usefull timesaver

In the trade we are always getting "wastage" drilled into us so making a paste on a board with a bit of salt and the knife being scraped across it tends to be the way we do it. I'm not a fan of crushers as I haven't used one yet that doesn't clag up and leave a perfectly useable lump behind in the bit that doesn't go through the mesh. At which point it becomes a faff and you think why didn't I just do what I was trained to do? Don't get me wrong, for those who know no different they are perfectly fine but for those of us up against the clock all the time they are a hinderance not an aid.

Potato crushers for mash on the other hand.......masses of win. Completely the same idea but with something of the correct consistancy to be pressed through a mesh leaving minimal wastage.

There's a knack to it, it's not the style of grinder that causes the surplus mess.

Simply swivel top over food/ingredients, then gently tap the side of the mill over the said food to loosen the surplus ground contents. Simples

Very good idea. Then put the grinder in a receptacle/container/holder.

If it bothers you that much.
