BT Privacy & Caller Display £1.75 pm from 4th Jan 2014
Had the letter arrive about this the other day.
NOW.. if I OPT IN I can get it FREE for the next 12months, they put me on a new 12month contract (I take it it's just an extension of the one I'm on now and not a new tarriff ?). But if you opt IN now, up to the 4th Jan you have to make two calls or you get charged £2 a month?
OR
I don't do anything and they start charging me for the service £1.75 a month from the 4th Jan... but no new contract for 12 month?
OR
do I OPT OUT, then I get no caller display with the number showing on my home phone and get cold calls?
I'm ex directory anyway.
what ever.. I'm stung anyway.. so is it better to not OPT IN... and let it just charge you £1.75 a month with no new 12 month contact?

Change suppliers.
BT business plan is to rip people off by inertia and off hand, I can't think of a better example of this than the one which you have provided.

I've I don't opt in now. come 4th Jan you'll be paying 1.75 a month anyway.. but not on an 'new' contract.
I'll wait till then I think

Get rid of phone line, buy a cheap mobile phone on a sim only cheap as chips deal and just leave it in the house and use it as a home contact number. Some mobiles even have a 'black list' so you can block unwanted numbers as well.
I don't have a house number and I don't give my number out to companies in general. No cold calls, no hassle.

You have to have line rental for internet, therefore a phone line?
At least that's how it is over my way? I have a phone number but it doesn't get used as I don't have a house phone.
House phones are always handy too as mobile signal is increasingly bad and sometimes the network is even down.

Fibre Optic internet doesn't use the phone line. There's just a white box with one cable to my hub. There isn't a socket to plug a phone in on the box, it's strictly for internet.
