That poor, poor child destined to live a life of ridicule until he's old enough to change his name. That's nothing short of child abuse.

To school playground bullies even some William or some Wilber will be a willieboy. One can't win. I think what his parents have done is that they have taken a short cut in order to cut the cr@p, and to help their boy get used to it. It could be an early measure to prevent future headache for the child. Quite thoughtful, if that's the case.
